Default Low compression 2001 s2000

Looking for some help
I had a shop put in a 3mm head gasket
I have 90 comp on all four cylinders
Head was checked for problems and passed before install.
Car runs good
Car was tested with engine warm fuel fused pulled, gas pedal all the way
Down and turned it over 8-9 times.
What can cause this low compression, I understand that the 3mm will lower
It but I don't believe that much . If there's anyone out the that has this big of a gasket installed and would like to do a test , please post your results

Any thing I should start to look for?

what kind of compression checker did you use? if the motor was really at 90 psi it would probably be a slow sob. I would check it with a nice name brand checker like snap on or matco then if its still low the only thing i could figure is the shop mess up somethin in the motor timing or somethin cuz that horrible compression even with a thick head gasket

My compression is 190 with the 3mm it was 2 faulty gauges. When I just had it tuned and a leakdown and compression check it turned out good. Thanks for the reply

It's used to lower the compression so I can use more psi and gain more hp

Do you mind telling us the PSI you are running and the HP levels you are seeing, that required you to go to the 3mm head gasket?

what does it lower the compression to? And I assume you mean so you can turn up the boost?

If I remember correctly, compression is lowered to approximately 8.8:1. It's sacrificing quench (combustion chamber design) for compression, not really a good compromise in my opinion but it gets the job done.

Common setup with the InlinePRO to push 400+whp safely/reliably, but as you push the envelop, the headgaskets start failing. I had this setup and it did 10k+ without issues.

thats a crazy drop in compression with just a head gasket

well 3mm is pretty thick for a headgasket, i personally had the setup and you could visually see the separation between the head and block with it installed lol .

I wouldn't have run a 3mm HG to run that amount of boost, is that your final numbers or just starting?

You don't need lower compression, just a decent tuner. People have made 700whp on stock compression F20C's.

PSI is meaningless because it depends on the turbo. 16 psi on a 55mm turbo is not the same as 16 psi out of a 76mm turbo.

WHP is the number you should be looking at.

^--- agreed 99%. that 1% who tuned 772whp with the 3mm headgasket.

^thats just retarded....33psi on a motor with 127k and making almost 800hp, i am now convinced these motors are bullet proof as long as you dont over-rev them

Hadn't seen that one. I just remember the one Tony at T1 did that had a stock head gasket and made over 700whp.

I think we can agree it's unnecessary at 400whp though.

I agree that whp number is what needs to be looked at, sorry my post was poorly worded and you though I was talking about just PSI.

I was trying to say at his boost levels with his turbo getting the HP levels he has I would not have run a HG.

And when I was asking what his final number goal was I again was refering to HP since maybe he has just started tuning it and has a very high final number in mind.
