Icon2 Hardtop puchase question!

So there are a couple of hardtops that I'm looking at after my break-in situation.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/pts/2973792637.html
That guy says it needs to be installed professionally. Is that true?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/00-UP-07-06-...213b26&vxp=mtr
$1,050 for a new Mugen (replica but fits and looks the same from what I've heard) looks great! Is this for real? Where would be the cheapest place to get the hardware for it? And again, does it need to be professionaly installed?

didn't click on the link, but if a body part says it needs to be professionally installed, that means you need to have a body shop do some work on it for it to fit well.

that said, if you don't want to spring for an OEM top, but you want something that fits well (right when you get it), then supposedly the Forbidden USA tops are the best.

Forbidden USA has had good reviews but I never had their top. As for installing it, you do not need a professional. To paint match it, yes but not to install it. I'm in DFW lmk if you want a top, I can get them for 1500 shipped with hardware kit.

I'd buy a '97 Acura CL 3.0l for 3k for a daily driver than a top..

Strange, I've heard the Mugen style tops fit quite nicely.. Replica or not. Guess it's a hit or miss with the replicas.

Replica tops always fit bad. Don't waste your money. You can install the top yourself. It's not that hard. There are lots of good install instructions on S2Ki. Google will help you find the threads. And also links for hardware. You can't beat OEM fit and finish.

I wouldn't recommend a top for the S2000 that is entirely too flimsy and has no insulation on the inside for sound deadening. But it's your car.

I have the Forbidden USA top and i love it the fitment it is spot on to the authentic Mugen hard top, out of all the reps I have ran and I've had them all of them, this is the only on i have ran that I can actually wash my car and have no water leeks inside the car or have any wind noise up to speeds of 140 that I have tested it to, and the guys over at
http://www.facebook.com/PrecisionDynamix are letting them go for a good price

I've never owned an OEM top. I'm not that fond of the look. I just purchased a new Mugen hardtop from King Motorsports. I don't have it installed yet, but the finish of the top and the hardware that comes with it are first rate. I'm going to have a headliner installed as well.

you can still run your soft top with any aftermarket hard top? ^ and with the tops from Forbidden USA your getting the same OEM fitment if not better.

I'd much rather roll on rota(which i do, only 16x8 slips though nothing else) and run a forbidon top and have 4k left over to buy a quality used header j's(900), berk 3"(600), bc 2 cams(600), fortune auto coils with custom rates(1100) and mk 4.44 gears(295)

That's just me though

yeah, it's usually a hit or miss with reps. if he says a shop will have to install it, then that's a no-brainer that it has fitment issues

I don't mean to threadjack but what do you guys think of the Bulletproof Automotive Hardtop Remix Version?

They the take Spoon Mooncraft top and put side windows in it, makes the car look like a fastback.

Expensive though

Taking your guys advice and ordering the Forbidden USA mugen style hardtop Looks like there's a group buy on s2ki for completely carbon fiber top for $1,450, extra $300 for hardware and rear window installation, and $250 shipping. $2k total for a sexy carbon fiber hardtop that supposably fits as well as the original Mugen does sounds like a steal to me Just waiting for that guy to message me back for my payment.

PS: They also have regular mugen replicas for $800 btw.
