Default Grinding question

Recently my car starded making a grinding noise. It's coming from the driver side rear. I'm kind of torn between the wheel bearing or the caliper. You can tell there is excessive wear on the outside of the rotor. The noise is worst when you first start driving the car but seems to get a little better once you have been driving it a bit. One other note is that if I make a sharp left turn the noise goes away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 01 with right over 100k

Wheel bearing is likely.

I just had to do both bearings on the rear of my car about a month ago. 65k miles and they were toast. Make sure you check the hub closely mine got chewed up from the bearing spinning.

You may have more then one problem. From what you described it sounds like the slide on your rear caliper may be seized causing your brakes ware unevenly. Pull them out and greese them and see if that fixes the issue. While you have the car jacked up and the wheel mounted, try jerking the wheel from left to right and from top to bottom to see if you have any play. This is a dead giveaway that you have a bad wheel bearing. There is no reason they should go out in 65k miles! They often last the lifetime of the car.
