You ask a question with no basis, you get an answer with no explanation.

2.5 for N/A, 3" for FI.

as helpful as those first few posts mightve been to you... id say a 2 3/4 is about as big as you should go just all motor. honestly, the straightest, least restrictive exhaust you can find is best. maybe not best on your ears, but definately best for the car. i actually used open toda header to custom 2 3/4 piping with nothing on it when i had my s2k. just straight thru and the car loved it especially top end. btw, apexi doesnt make the gt spec for the s, but they do have the n1 single. the spoon is a great exhaust for it, as is the j's, and veilside teardrop if you can find it. 3 inch would more so suit a supercharged motor, naturally. good choice on single. and for future reference, id check elsewhere, like s2ki.com, before coming here for s2000 tech tips. good luck with everything.

why? you're gonna lose backpressure on NA motor. if he decides to make the switch, then 3in.

Besides, a 2.5" single is loud enough. couldn't imagine a 70mm on my car.

LAS2K is actually informative now.... not like back in the day.... take it as a complement ... now explain to the guy why backpressure is needed...

boy oh boy i didnt wanna have to get tech. on this...
yes you need some back pressure but with motors like the F/k the NA motors flow soo much that the 3" serves it perfectly.....

and no one said anything about good onthe ears...

yeah 70mm=bleeding ears.

where to begin on backpressure

exhaust gas is hot and you want to keep it hot until it exits the muffler. air becomes dense when cold and therefore harder to "push out". Too large of piping and the gas will be harder to get rid of and causes slow exhaust flow.

this all of course is for NA motor. going FI will increase your exhaust temperature so therefore it would be wise to go with larger piping to get rid of the hot air faster.

now we're cookin. i actually took pride in the eardrum rupturing sound that came from my car, but the 3 in. comment is definatley true with the f and k now that i think about it.

Correct. the hotter the exhaust gas is the better it will flow, however when you have flow of both teh f/k motors screaming away at 7k+ rpm's believe me 100 degrees of exhaust temp isnt going to make a diff.

technically it would since it can reach a max of somewhere around 257 degrees Fahrenheit. but i can't do the math to see if .5 inches of diameter is gonna change it be 100 degrees.

Factor in wall thickness to heat dissipation surface area/rate ratio, both convection from the outside and inside, varying engine RPMs. A guess is still a guess. EGT readout does wonders.

also yes air becomes dense when chilled, however there is min. amounts of OXYGEN in the exhuast since it was combusted in the motor

yes teh EGT's should be around 900-1100 depending on compression and fuel.

back pressure only make a "neg" effect on the low side 3K and under...
