I agree 100% with the style comment, the car does look dated...especially the interior.

As far as the motor not being peaky, drive one with a Dinan Stage 2 or 3 software upgrade with the raised redline and higher fuel cutoff...for an inline 6, it is incredibly peaky when thinking in terms of pull in the higher portion of the powerband, and it still retains the torque for low end pull...i wasnt saying it was as peaky as the S2000, not much is outside Ferrari's, but compared to the rest of the bimmer pack...well, atleast i think so.

And while not as raw as say the AP1 S2000...compared to the E46, i think we can agree, it is rather raw, and more comparible to the pure sports car feel that the S2000 provides.

Carrera GT is fine and dandy, give me a 993 TT AWD anyday...1996 model in amethist pearl...my all time favorite car ever built.

I had the fortunate opportunity to troll around in a 991 Turbo, Arctic Silver.

Was not impressed. It feels dated, too. I do think it's got its own very unique spot in the 911 lineage, but when it comes down to it, I'd take a 996 Turbo over it every day.

redline is a factor of power band...nothing more. Why wouldn't you take take the eingine with a broader powerband that comes up sooner and more avg. torque? I admit, it's cool to see 9k but that's about all its good for.

Not that the s2000 was made for drag racing but which gets the better 1/4mi time? Stock vs stock, AP1 or AP2?

It's funny that I said what I said just to avoid someone acting all butthurt when I asked what times they run and look what I got.

How about posting an answer next time?

Lots of differences, go to the dealer and ask the salesman, and check/drive both of them.

because there are usually less miles, and wear on a cra that is 2-3 years newer. some people also prefer the door tweeters, pleather console, different finish on the wheels, and let's not forget the upgraded banjo bolt/oil squirter thingys.

i think the AP2 is just out of your range for right now unfortunately.</TD></TR></TABLE>

wrong, i've seen 04/05 AP2s go for cheaper than 03 AP1s at low 20's couple weeks ago when i went car shopping to buy my Z.

If you are at the right place at right time, you can get hell of deal on cars.
For example, my clean 06 350Z Touring Automatic with 22000miles on the clock, i got it for $22000
Dealer wanted it for $27900, but ended up selling for $22000
right next to it was 03 S for $24500, and 04 S for $21500 and 05 S for $23000
i don't remember the mileages tho

P.S. - the reason why i got the Z was because it was so cheap. the dealer had the car for sale on cars.com for $22900 for a one night by mistake i guess and next day it was taken off. I'm only planning to stay in CA for another 6 month or so and not planning to drive the S or NSX back to eastcoast if i buy one.

Actually in 2005 he was correct. You're replying to a thread made in 2005.

Wow...so I'm reading this thread with much interest...suprised by all the well written responses -- lengthy, but elegantly and I'm thinking where am I at? A little repartee thrown in here and there ... this can't be the S2000 forum in HondaTech.....but it is? Then, I see the post dates....lol.

I haven't read the thread but I've worked in sales at a Honda dealership for 3 years and I've driven plenty of both.

The ap1 feels more primal and raucous, while the ap2 is a little better behaved and a little more civilzed. I remember the ap1 being a little more abrupt when the back end comes out, while the ap2 is a little easier to step out in a tentative way and bring back whenever you want.

ap1 to ap2 changes are

-stroked motor to make it 2.2 instead of 2.0
-dropped redline to 8k
-more midrange power and torque, and peak occurs much earlier so car is more street friendly
- 0-60 is roughly the same
-16 in wheels to 17 in wheels
-carbon coated syncros on 4'th 5th and 6th (i think)
-softened rear suspension so it understeers a shade until you use the throttle (ride is more comfortable and compliant, yet it holds a higher skidpad number and a faster slalom time. go honda...)

that's everything i can remember. either way, you'll love the car
