Default Considering an s2000!!

Well, I've become somewhat bored with my ws6 and have always entertained the idea of purchasing an s2000.

I probably couldn't swing the money for an AP2, but an AP1 seems very feasible.

Is there anything I should look for, in particular, during my search?

i.e. quirks of certain model years..etc..

The only thing I've heard of is being a weak differential, and to avoid s2k's with the plastic rear window. Anything else?

Many older S2000's have small tears in the roof. You'll find some w/ a newly replaced roof. Listen for any weird noises or vibrations. Most issues I've seen can definitely be noticed on an attentive test drive.

Check out my '03 for $12,990. http://goagent.net/s2000/

just drive the car and look for any signs of abuse...
check your brakes, tires, fluid leaks, tears on the roof/seats and just an overall safety inspection.

Avoid 00 and 01.

They use the plastic rear window that cracks easily.

They are the best bang for the buck, and with a little time and mechanic skills, you can buy a 02+ glass top cheap and put it on.

or if you want to have a hardtop and youre not going to use the soft top at all, you can remove it with ease, and then not have to worry about any defroster wiring in it

I got an 00, and I used to have an 01. I wish I had waited about 6 months, prices of 02's have dropped so much now.

WHen buying, make sure you don't get an S2000 that has 1-2 grind. Do some WOT acceleration and a fast 1-2 shift (this was a prevalent problem 00-01)
