Clutch problem?
So I have had my S for about 2 weeks now and I have been thinking that the clutch needs replacement. So here's why.... first week I had the car I decided to take the car to a parking lot and try to learn how the car reacts, rather than on the road. The first thing I wanted to find out was how to launch the car, and more specifically what breaks the rear tires loose. I kno I kno its not that type of car but i'm sure everyone on this board has done this. So anyways I reved the car up to about 5K and dropped it in, much to my amazement no tire squeal. The car bogged a lot and I then realized the clutch was burning so I immediatly got off the gas and stopped. I did not like this so I headed home embarrassed, thinking driver error was the cause. So a few days later I tried again.... same thing. Additionally the catch point on the clutch is very high probably about 15-20% which is exactly how my Celica GT-S reacted when it needed a new clutch..... therefore my conclusion, the car needs a new clutch. I called the dealer I purchased it from and I am gonna bring it by this week. I just figured I would get your guys input on my little situation. Oh yea one more question.... any of your guys 02' S2K's convertable top rattle when going over bumps? Well LATA!!!!!

How many miles on the S? Are you the second owner? How hard did the previous guy drive the car and was he/she a n00b at stick shift? When you say you have a high catch point [15-20%], you mean that the clutch doesn't engage until your foot is almost off the pedal? Hmm...when you taking it to the dealer?

Nah I never really dump the clutch in, but i'm sure everyone has done it a few times. I kno its bad for the car but like I said before I wanted to get better adjusted with the car. In terms of the clutch yes I meant with it depressed about 15-20% is the catch point, does anyone know if you can adjust the clutch on the S?
I have no idea how the previous owner drove the car as I bought it from a dealership.

Note...once you are ready to launch the car with a new broken-in clutch, side-step the clutch at 6k rpm.
Check the latch strikers on the windshield...many top rattles are from worn strikers. Easy to replace and newer ones have been hardened so they won't wear as quickly.

my 05 top makes sounds but i have noticed its when the frame of the car may contort under load then rapidly returns to normal, like taking a turn then hitting a hard bump or pothole, moving parts naturally get loose...
i think it is normal for the s to bog at 5k, guys on here have suggested launching as high as 7-8k for wheel spin, but on a stock clutch its just throwing away money, my stock clutch engages almost just with the weight of my foot, but if u have to ask about adjusting it, then its probbly something u shouldnt do without experienced help.

With the '04 S2000 I have (just broke 18K miles), my clutch is the same way. My foot is about 75% of the way up off the pedal before it catches.
