Icon3 CEL P1457

Hey Guys,

I bought a honda S2000 a week ago. Its an 03 and has 100,000 miles on it. The CEL just came on and is reading a code of P1457. I know it's an emissions code for the control canister system. Have any of you had this code?? If so, what fixed it and is it something I can do myself?

The most common cause for this DTC in climates that have snow is a rusted/corroded EVAP bypass solenoid.

If you don't live in a climate that subjects your S2000 to such adverse weather conditions then the code has something to do with the EVAP canister. The EVAP cannister is located near the rear left wheel. If you look from behind towards the left half shaft, you'll see a black box with a "honeycomb" pattern on the end of it. That's the EVAP can. On that thing, is a purge valve (ref #5 in this S2000 diagram). You may have a bad purge valve or a bad wiring harness or one of hoses going or coming from the cannister is damaged or fallen off. The cannister itself may be cracked. This part belongs to a fuel recovery system the pulls fuel vapours out of the system and puts it back into liquid form so it doesn't go into the atmosphere.

CEL P1456 usually denotes a loose or bad gas cap but it doesn't hurt to double-check your gas cap to ensure that it's screwed on properly.

Good luck guys!

Thanks!! We replaced the gas cap last night then reset the light. We've been about 30 miles since then and it's not back on yet. Hopefully that took care of it. If not, we'll def take your advice TechTalk and check everything else out!
