contact alainz, even though they specialise in cylinder heads, they have built a few s2000 engines.

I was thinking Alaniz for headwork and Eric's Racing for motor buildup. Has Eric done any S2K motors?

Mike Simon builds S2000 motors. He has build a race car with an S2000 motor back in the day, and has since build many turbo S2000 motors, including mine, which produced 560 rwhp, and the car in Super Street this month, which made 505 rwhp. My motor has lasted about 2 years since it was originally built, and it's been through around 150 dyno runs, and daily driving. He charges $5600 + core for a complete motor with head work, pistons, sleeves, crank polish, head studs, main studs, machining, assembly, etc... You'll have a hard time finding anyone with as much experience with this motor.
You can also go with a lesser setup for less money. If your money is tight, you can get away with pistons and sleeves for much less.
Contact me if you want more info.

See Super Street this month, or http://www.chrisdrivesafastcar.com . Mike doesn't market his motors at all, he just does it when someone comes along. It's all word of mouth. If you have any questions you can email me at chris@chrisdrivesafastcar.com . I know these motors inside and out.

either one will be fine, Alainz has built a race motor for my friend. When it comes to this stuff, it's best to find a builder that is somewhat local to you and you can trust their work. IMO, I find it overkill to source someone on the other coast if there is a good builder local to you, so if you're on the east coast, you've got many good builders and likewise for the west coast. Engine building takes experiece, patience, and time and hopefully builders don't rush things and take their time.

Excellent point. Find a reputable builder in your area.

I don't even know the exact details as it's a race motor so things aren't known about race motors for competitive reasons but I do know that Alainz does good quality work and doesn't rush things. There aren't any mysteries or surprises to engine building, it's very straight foward. You figure out what you want the engine for and go from there. I wouldn't consider the cost of building a race motor until I had a purpose for it and sponsors to help out in the build.
