Default Best year?

I am thinking about getting an s2000 next spring but I want to hear some opinions on the best year to by I anything before a 2003 has some troubles with the oil squirters. I like the 9000rpm red line on the 2 liter but haven't heard much about the other motor I know the cosmetic differences but is there any suspension upgrades or anything major differences?

That was pretty funny. I think the oil squirters also help to cool the piston by helping to dissipate the heat. I remember reading that somewhere. Also, in my opinion I wouldnt get anything less an 02 because of the plastic rear window. They tend to yellow/fade and look crappy.

the best years IMO are 02-03 and the 04-05

00-01 has the plastic window and a couple minor recalls and their older.

06+ i dont care for the electric throttle.

just get the newest one you can afford.

when looking for an s2000 i wanted/bought the 2003, glass rear window, still has the 9k redline, firmer suspension, leather center concil, better tuned ecu then previous years, etc.

some things i dont like about the 2003:
i dont like the bling rings around the brake lights.... **** i guess thats it.

The best year was the 1993 model...came with an awesome car phone connected to VTEC...you've heard them say they're trying to "dial it in"? There you go...press # for massive torque increase.

Just out of curiosity though, how do you go about "loobing" something?

Welcome back!

Oil squirters cool pistons, they don't lube much.

The best model year is 99-06. 05 preferrably.

As far as suspension changes, I've been told that AP1's were stiffer in the rear than in the front, and they switched it around in '04, which resulted in a more "forgiving" ride due to less oversteer. I'm a proud owner of a white '04 and 8K redline does it for me. Just swap for a black interior, throw on a decent CAI, and get some nice coilovers and you'll be good!

00 with a serial number under 100 is the best or one of the last 10 of 2007.

The plastic just needs maintenance. I use a scratch removing polish and mines just fine; no yellow. The biggest reason not to get the plastic years is that they don't have the defogger as the plexaglass years do.

But, as far as any real difference in the handling and performance: they all handle great (except for the oversteer at limits), it's the drivers that are the difference.
