Wrong motor?
Hey all you Prelude guru's, a quick question.
I just bought a 90 Prelude Si and am having oil consumption problems, so I decided to rebuild or replace the existing motor (131,000 miles). I called around and was told according to the VIN and year I have a B20A5 motor (2.05 I think)? I called a couple other places and was told I have a B21A1 (2.1?). I looked at the block and it says B21A1, but these places are telling me thats not the motor that is suppose to be in the car? How do I find out if the motor was swapped or if this IS the motor that came with the car, and what are the differences in the motors? This is simply for my own knowledge. Thanks for any help.

I can't answer your engine question. But I just wanted to add that it's pretty well documented that those 2.0l and 2.1l motors in the 3rd gen Preludes do burn oil like a ****. 1 quart every 1000-1500mi is not unheard of on seemingly healthy engines. I guess what I'm trying to say is that maybe it is not worth the money to swap your engine out... As long as the engine still runs OK, why invest in a new motor in this 12 year old car? Just keep an eye on the oil levels and top off as needed. Also, running a higher viscosity oil may lessen the amount consumed...

Yea, a couple of friends are mechanics and we have come to the agreement that it stays for now. We are going to try the seefoam treatment and see if it helps the rings out. I did a little research and found that carbon builds up on the rings and allows oil through, so we hope the seefoam gets rid of that but doesn't make it worse.
