wire identification and placement

wire identification and placement
on the driver's side of the engine bay there is a harness (egr?) where two wires go in a connector and 2 wires come out...there is a red wire and a yellow/black wire going in one side and the same colors coming out but i think mine is mixed up...this is mine:

yellow/black----| |----red
i would assume they should match up. or maybe they should be the exact opposite on both sides of what i have now. when i switch the wires around in different configs, it messes with the fuel ratio i think because the powerband changes a little bit. which is the right way?
