separating the taillight tail light

k, i'm trying to take the yellow/amber turn signal out of my tail light but i've been goin at it with a heat gun for about 1/2 an hour and all i'm doing is melting plastic. anybody got any tips on how to separate the red lense from the black backing?
Hey man, I am not sure if this will help you but I helped clear out my friend's S2000 headlights. What we did was use a heat gun...get one corner loose. As soon as one corner was loose we kept the heat gun on the taillight and slowly heated it down the line, while applying contant pressure to pull the light apart.
You have to heat it up uniformly. If you don't...the glue just reseals again.
I did this almost two years ago. Can't remember if we did anything esle.

thanks man,it helped sum. thats how i was gonna do it, but the seal isn't on the outside, its kinda tucked back in the light sum.
It'll take 2 people to get the damn thing appart. I threw mine in the oven and set it to about 150-200. Don't go higher cause they'll melt! I seem to remeber starting at the top too. I seperated the bottom first one time and broke part of the top corner. What are you using as the replacment edge? I tried using the florescent light cover, but it's too cheap and flimsy for me.
Heat it up from the back side, don't put it in the oven

I put mine in the oven at 300 degrees (ovens may vary) for a few minutes and then just used about 1000 different flatheads to pry it open one side at a time starting with the side with the clips. It can be kind of frustrating but after the first one it gets 100 times eaiser. It only took me about an hour. It looks a lot cleaner. Just be patient so you dont break them and good luck.

Geeesss...that is the hard way. me and my friend did mine by running hot water and letting the glue loosen up. that way, you dont take a chance of melting your taillight. they are pretty expensive to be taking big risks with them. after they sit and get warm, they peel right apart (with some cussing of course!) that is how we did mind. work for the corner...but i have to warn you..they do not make an amber bulb to fit the blinker bulb. and the blinker bulb without that amber piece is extremely bright...or atleast that is what the cop said while he was righting me a ticket for them. they arent worth the ticket! they do look awsome however. hot water is the safest way to go. and pretty easy. when putting them back together. make sure it is dry. you will have to press hard on the light to make sure it seals good.

I Don't know where you get your light bulbs, but I picked up a pair of amber bulbs from a local auto store and i even realized that I already had a pair when I got home too. My rear turn signals are clear but they blink amber, it looks beautiful.

hmmmmmmmmm i'll hafta try the hot water idea... if that don't work tho i'ma be goin with the oven. I'll practice on my altezza's first tho just cuz i hate em and dont worry if i ruin em. that and i'll hafta separate em anyways to get the clear blinker plastic part
