why?
always wanted to know why preldues are discontinued cars...are they not good?...seems like there tha best hondas to me.....and wat does s.i. stand for .....also everyone always tells me diff explanations...basicaly there own opinion about superchargers...so wats tha diff between super charger and reg. turbo...wats better?...
The Integra offered similar pefromance for less money; the Civic offered more practicality and, again, on paper, a comprable amout of "car" for much less money. The market demand couldn't bear/justify the Prelude model line.
Why aren't they made any more?......................Poor sales in comparison with other Honda models. Si stands for Sequential Injection. Superchargers are a type of forced induction that is belt driven, where as turbos are driven by spent exhaust gases to spin a turbine. In my mind turbos are the way to go because they are more efficent than superchargers. They take unused energy (exhaust gases) and use them to make power. A supercharger will have to take some power away (in sense) before it can give it back because of the drag of belt and pulley system.

Yup...because of the Accord. The Prelude was considered overpriced too. It was an expensive car. The Accord was a better value.
That's why all the Preludes in 97-01 came standard with the H22.

Sales.
People wanted a sporty Honda, they choose the S2K.
People wanted an economy car, they choose the Accord.
The Prelude got no love!

The poor prelude
Honda could afford the loss in sales it experienced for a few years cause we all know that if honda still made the prelude, it would sell well now!
p.s. i didnt know SI stood for "sequencial injection" or whatever, i was always told it stood for "sport injected" or something like that and S stands for "Slow" cause i had an 89S

Yup SI stands for sequential injection. The the term originated with a late 80's Civic model ,I forget which one. Another reason why the lude sales were poor is because the demographic they were targeting was 30 to 50 year olds. Not like the teg which was after 18 to 25 year olds. Thats why the lude is so refined. It was more on par with a luxury sport coupe rather than an all out sports car.
im glad they stopped making them.
because it makes me happy to have snatched a 2000 5 speed base model.
also they stopped making the OEM factory lip kits, and we all know how preicous those kits are.
my prelude will live forever.

Uhhhh, no it wouldn't. Most people want a car that is RWD and has torque/HP. The "6th" Gen Prelude would not have been able to cut it. Besides, the RSX is already out. That would've just been another car that would compete against the Prelude.
It was a smart decision to pull the Prelude if you are looking from a money making point of view.
I am just glad that I was able to get one. I was VERY fortunate that I found the Prelude that I did. I was about to buy a 4th Gen Accord coupe. I am so GLAD that I looked at cars.com after I came home from drinking one Friday. I snatched the car up before anyone was able to look at it on Sat.
