is this the VTec model?
hey whats sup i was looking to purchase this prelude but i cant go see it until friday do you think its the vtec model the guys doesnt know wha engien it has... its a 95 prelude 5spd black with black leather interior 160k wing. power everything good condtion and no problems at all the guy told me... he asking $4500 for it is it a go deal? i was thinking offering him 4g flat cash what you guys think?
that should be VTEC because it has the VTEC wheels. But he could have swaped them. Very easy to tell if you pop the hood. If you can not tell at that point then you should not be driving. Note - will say VTEC right on the valve cover if it is. If not it's prolly the H23A1.
you should tell him to get a pic of the engine bay. All 4th gen prelude VTECs come with power everything, alloy rims, wing, and only come in 5 speed. Also the redline is 7400 on the cluster as the SI is 6500. I believe the S model is 6200.
i know by opeing the hood u can tell but like i say i havent seen the car yet.. the guy told me the car stock he hasnt change anything its the way from fac so i guessing is the Vtec model... cus the wheels leather n wing cus of what i know SE n some Vtec model are leather right? n those wheel are the vtec model wheels so by looking at the pic im guessing is the vtec ill let you guys know friday when i go see the car... but do you guys think its a good deal for $4500 or OBO?? how mu think is worth?
those are 94-96 wheels, both the si and vtec get them, can't tell by them. However if its 100% stock Im thinking theres a good chance its vtec because of the leather, but it could have been a dealer add on or whatever.

If he is selling it for only $4500...it is most definitley not a VTEC.
Best way to tell without even looking at the car is ask him what the VIN Number is. If it has a, "BB1" in it then it is a VTEC Prelude. If it has a BB2 in it...then it is a H23 Si.

There you go. The Si's did have a dealer leather option from a lot of dealers, so that's not a good way to tell.

Don't forget about the SE (Prelude H23 Si Special Edition. Only came out in 95). I think it only came in two colors, but I am not positive. A silverish-tan color and green. Not sure if SEs came in black though. SE's all came with leather.

chances are its not a vtec model cuz they are rare and hard to find, since its a 95 with leather its prolly an SE, also if it is vtec then its defintely worth it, if not then its still worth it.,

WRONG newbie. Didn't you read where I said the SE only came in dark green and champagne with tan interior? NOT black on black. What, you thought I was lying to you?

It also came in black.
Si's with 4WS also came in Britany Blue. I thought it was called Azur-blue green but I could be wrong.

Beat me to this one also. Mine is the Special Edition. Came with leather, and the Green looks just like black if not in the sun-light. BUT.. The wheels on the SE are different. Swirly 5spokes.
It is a strong possiblility that it is a VTEC. Like was said, leather is an option on Si's but standard on VTEC's. You can also tell if it is VTEC by looking on the trunk. It will say "DOHC VTEC" right below the "Prelude" emblem.
Bottom line, you can't tell from that photo but is pretty likely to be one.
As for the price, $4500 is VERY good for a VTEC. It is possible that the owner doesn't know what he has.

it's also very possible (and much more likely) that the owner knows what he has, and has ragged the living hell outta it.
I wouldn't buy it unless I drove it. Not something that cheap.

Well obviously he should test drive it first. Anyone who doesn't throughly check over a car before they buy it deserves a lemon. I am just saying that since the car is stock it is possible that he hasn't mistreated it.

There are JDM BB1 series non-vtecs and UKDM versions.
First chassis produced was BB1 up till '94 when the design of the interior and front bumper was changed.
One of the most distinctive ways to tell the BB1 from a BB4 is the nostril vents. A BB1 Prelude has single fin Gray vents that arent colour coded. The BB4 series has black semi-transparent vents with double fins that are sunk back 3/4"inch
Also look in the sil of the drives side door where it tell you tyre specifications; It should say Si, Si VTEC etc etc there!
