VAFC Wiring
I gotta VAFC-I and needed some guidance on if this thing works. When i got it i touched to the power and the negative wire to the battery terminal to see if everything lit up and worked. The buttons lit up but no display came on and I figured that happened because it wasnt wired into the ECU yet. I then attempted to hook the thing up myself but I suck at wiring. Same thing happened but like I said i suck at wiring so maybe that's why the display didn't come on. I'm gonna be taking it to a professional now but before I do that I wanna know if its the actual VAFC that's a dud or if with the battery test method would only allow the buttons and not the display to light up since it's not reading anything off the ecu? Thanks in advance for your info. The link below is one off ebay and I dont think it it's hooked up to and ecu but this is what sparked my curiosity.

well i don't know too much about the vafc1 but i'm pretty good with electronics and wiring. I would assume that there should be some kind of signal it gets from when the ignition turns on. Kind of like your head unit. It has power and ground at all times but there will be a wire that will be live when the ignition is on. This will tell the vafc to turn ON when the engine is on and then the vafc will turn OFF when the ignition is off.

most electronics this is true, but these devices have something like EEPROM (electonically eraseable programming read only memory) so it doesn't lose its settings when unplugged, like your radio presets when you disconnect the battery.
so with that in mind it might not have a signal wire and a power wire like a relay.
not sure either way but at least you know you won't lose your settigns now

The VAFC isn't wired into the car right now. I was just wondering if it's in good working condition before I go get it installed. When I picked it up we teseted it by touching the wires to the battery terminal to see if all was in working order. The lights for the buttons came on but nothing came up on the display. From your guy's experinece would you think this thing is working or should I just get another one or is their a better way to check if this VAFC is any good?

That means there is a +12v constant wire for memory, then another +12v signal wire to turn on the unit itself when the key is on the "on" position.
