Default Type S or Crower Stage 2 Cams

I have CAI, DC sport headers and a Tanbe DTM exaust and was thinking about going ahead and getting either some type s cams or crower stage 2 cams just becuase I really dont have that much money and they seem like a good way to gain some horsepower. Could anyone that has some type s or crower stage 2 cams respond and tell me what kind of gains you had and how it affected your car (idle ect.). I was also wonderin if anyone had any for sale of knew of someone that did. Thanks.

From what I've read in the past and heard from others, Type S cams are totally a waste a money if you were to compare them to Crower Stage II cams. I can't remember where I read, but the gains from Type S cams are minimal compared to the Crower set. I read up on cams for myself, and Type S would just be a waste after reading up on the gains from cams by Crower, Jun, and WEB---I wish I could say I had one of those three sets...

Prelude004, where in Chicago are you? I'm in the NW suburbs. Oh yeah, welcome to the board.

Unfortunately, I don't have a set of cams yet, but I have HEARD that there are fitment problems putting Type S cams in a Base or SH head. I guess the Crowers are made for the USDM heads and fit ok, but I have yet to see dyno numbers proving their worth.

Brian.

Crower would be the way to go.

Default I would not be so quick to..

..reccomend Crower Honda VTEC or non-VTEC cams, per this thread:
http://www.hybridforum.net/showthrea...sb=5&o=2&part=

Also, mugen22, there are no fitment problems w/ using type-s cams in USDM h22 heads, there is a suspected issue w/ materials incompatibility or design incompatibility. Some people using type-s cams in USDM h22 heads have experienced rocker arm scorching on account of the type s cams, even when using the complete type-s valvetrain and variable valve lash setting, including factory reccomended settings. Tis could be due to ramp rate or angle that simply are too hard on USDM valvetrain, who knows, regardless the type s cams can scorch yoru rocker arms and leave you w/ a hefty repair bill. Personally, for a very affordable set of cams, I would advise you to use USDM type-SH cams, a friend of mine rated the type-s and type-SH as being so close in profiles that the exchange would be a waste of labor, on a base model motor, meaning non ATTS equipped! Also, regarding Crower cams, look up the above url for details.

Aren't the USDM SH and USDM Base cams the same part #?

no, the type SH is slightly more agressive. crower has the specs on their website.
http://www.crower.com

go to the H-series section. They list the JDM motor cam profile & the type SH cam profile. the JDM motor has the same cams as the USDM motor. you can see the small difference there.
