Type R shift boot on a 5th gen.....Problems
Ok after many research and seeing many pics of 5th gen preludes having Type R red stitched shift boots on I decided to go that route too. It was said to be a direct bolt on but when I tried it today the holes did not even line up. No matter what direction you turn it the holes won't line up to where it should be.
Here's some pics of the holes from the prelude to the type R ones just so you could get the feelings of how off they holes are since I didn't want to shoot the center conscel thing. Oh and could it be that I got the Civic Type R ones....maybe they're different???

And here's the other side of the R...doesn't even have holes.

Are you sure the 5th gens you were looking at had Type R shift boots? I know there were certain years of the Type SH model that came with red-stitched shift boots. I was trying to get one. I heard they stopped making them though.
Oh, I put a 5th gen shift boot on my 4th Gen (it was only the solid black boot though.
) and I had to take the staples out, re-use my 4th Gen mounting plate, and re-staple it. You might have to do the same.

on my 4th gen i removed the metal piece from the shift boot and followed the steps on how the stock boot sat.. just remove teh staples from the old boot and staple the itr one on. and yeah ctr and itr are identical i believe..

NO 5th gens never came with red stitched boots but people always have them and I was told just to buy the DC type R's and they should fit....no MODS. Is there something I'm missing??? I was going to take the type R boot off and just staple it to the 5th gens plastic but just want to confirm from people that knows or has done this mod/conversion.

thats exactily what i had to do to get the same boot to fit in my old 5th gen. I took about 10 threads off the shifter though and rethreaded 10 threads further down on the shifter. It was a little lower but it made the boot fit better because it was lower than the stock boot. Plus i had a short throw kinda and it made it feel better when shifting.

Take off the metal part from the Type R shiftboot, then with your 5th gen boot, bend up the staples around the boot then remove the old boot, then just slide the ITR boot over the staples then bend down the staples and your done.

The only "problem" you are having is not listening to how people are telling you to do it, the way you switch boots has been mentioned several times already in this thread. I'll run it by you one more time to see if it helps at all
1. Remove the staples
2. Remove the old boot
3. Remove the metal ring from the new boot
4. Insert the new boot
5. Reinsert the staples
TA DA!!! Your new shift boot is installed

Actually I am listening, the only problem was I was listening to people that had false info from other sites. I appreciate all this help and will just modify the boot. It will be very easy.....Thanks
Will post pics when done.

Ok guys here's the goodies.....not too hard but dam it's like 93 degrees and humid like a ****. Hummm I got to find a way to keep the boot from slipping down, I hate to see that ugly shifter. I wish Honda didn't stop selling the SH red stitched **** so since I couldn't find it so just bought "Vinuneuro's" Razo shift ****. It feels slimmer/pointier than it looks but I'll get used to it. I like the extra wieght too. Now I need a nice steering wheel to match.

You mean put the zip tie first and then slip the boot and center consel over it??? If so then dam I'd have to take all that crap apart again......it's too dam hot and I don't want to touch the car anymore.
As for the ****, yeah at times it looks tacky, but hey I hate those metal ***** because of heat and cold weather. I only wish it was only a bit more round and shorter.....but oh wellz I like it though.

Yeah OEM SH but not OEM Base model those are ugly. They don't sell the OEM ones with red stitched anymore, trust me I've looked every site and every classified forums.
I do like the skunk2's better but can't bear it when it's hot or cold.....plus I've had that in the past so just want to try something new.
