tuning
hey ive always heard ppl say you can make good hp out of i/h/e with the right tuning. what do they mean by tuning? sorry for the noobines only 15
. thanks in advance
. thanks in advance
i would assume that with almost 300 posts, you would know a board rule...

you can tune with anything from a fuel pressure regulator to a full stand alone.
anything that will alter your fuel injection or timing is technically "tuning"
but what people are talking about mostly on these boards would be altering the actually fuel and timing maps on the ecu either thru
a piggyback(greddy E-Manage, V-AFC, Apexi Neo etc.)
a chipped ecu(as you guessed)
or completely replacing the ecu with a standalone(F.A.S.T. MoTec, AEM EMS etc.)
there plenty of information on all 3 types of solution and their benefits, experiance required to use, drawbacks through the search tool so you can start digging if you want to(remember to search archived as well as recent)
street tuning is tuning on the street(like I am atm) use this to get your partial throttle and all your real world adjustors(gear comp, temp changes etc.) in place
then dyno tuning is tuning on a dyno, most helpful for getting maximum power, setting the correct VTEC point and fine tuning.

if your gonna do it, do it right. Swap to OBDI and run something like Crome. If you are planning on boost, i would run something other than crome....like neptune or hondata.
dont mess with bs like the VAFC, safc...emanage..etc. They are all crap and can only "tune" a fraction of the engine.
you dont benefit from going obd1 just by getting a chipped ecu like alot of fools around. You benefit from real tuning. Someone sitting in YOUR car with a laptop and wideband connect so they can make real adjustments, unlike fake ones like the vafc.
If your tuner is good, you can get better gas mileage, more power all around, and just a smooth driving vehicle.

^ +1 to that
I'm still above the half mark on my tank and I'm at around 170 miles to this tank. Once you firgure out how to set up the closed loop in Hondata and everything it's really not that hard if you have the Wideband and datalogging all working correctly.
hoping to get over 300 miles to this tank, but yeah don't mess around with piggybacks and other **** like that your just going to wish you spent the extra 200 bucks and got a real tuning solution.

well i got a 93 prelude vtec. i thought they already come with obd1. i have a bored 63mm tb, ported intake manifold plate, i/e, and underdrive pulley. what kind of tuning should i do with those or is tuning even worth it right now?
ok ive been searching and researching for exactly what tuning is and i think im ready to do it. so can someone help explain to me what i have to do to tune? i heard it makes the car run better, save gas mileage, add extra hp, and overall make the car run better. so what do i gotta do?
Get a good wideband O2 sensor like PLX (none of that Autometer $20 narrowband lightshow crap) and some form of engine management like was already mentioned. You coul also get a fuel pressure regulator and adj. cam gears but those aren't necessary. Also....SEARCH!

Can you explain?
I didn't have no problems so far with Crome and boost.

crome has a problem with retarding timing to a certain extent. If it has a problem with that, theres no telling what else it has problems with. Thus pushing me towards a more advanced system that has been better tested.
ok so i still dont get what i can do with this. if i chi the ecu and i do anything to the car, does that mean i have to buy a new chip or something? and can someone help me start off like a first step or something? im thinkging of a vafc or something. i just want better gas mileage and more power and overall better car.
ok say for the s100. if i by that do i have to go to the dealership to get the car tuned? and for the s200 if i get the hondalogger i can tune it myself? and is tuning by yourself hard?
