Is transimission fluid changes normal for a 5spd
I'm having the car oil changed Monday and was wondering if I shoudl go ahead and have the transimission fluid changed while i'm there also. My car has 175, 000 miles on it. Is this a waste of money or is it worth the bucks? Please list pros, cons please.

First of all, why don't you just change your oil and tranny fluid yourself? Second of all, there are no cons to changing tranny fluid. It should be done every 3 or so oil changes and all it does is re-lube all of the gears and syncro. YOu will notice a lot better and smoother shifting after replacing tranny fluid. I would also recommend honda OEM manual tranny fluid.

umm, they recommend it every 100k miles or so, but if you have never changed urs. change it! go to a honda dealership and pick up 3 bottles of oem mtf fluid. 3 bottles should be suffice.
Yes you should get it changed for the reasons that it will make shifts smoother, because it allows the synchros to work more effectively. I'd recommend you use the original Honda tranny oil, but there's various schools of thought on that.
either way, do it.
either way, do it.

some people dont have the time to change it themselves, just something to think about.

i was watching Best Motoring's VTEC club and they were interviewing one of the higher ups from Spoon (maybe the CEO) who shocked everyone on the program by stating that you should change your manual trans oil in your Honda EVERY time you change your motor oil because there is no filter for the transmission like there is on the engine.
after hearing this, i was thinking, true, there is no filter on the trans but also, there is no combustion either, so the oil can stay fresh longer in the trans than in the engine. however, the guy from Spoon did not expand more into this topic.
i am not going to question the logic of one of the greatest companies that modify Hondas..but I wil stick to once every 15k mi interval for now.

My thoughts exactly . . . .
If I were road-racing my car on a regular basis, fresh tranny oil would be a good idea to have in there as often as possible. Since I'm not, sticking to the factory recomended 60,000 mile interval (for severe conditions) is plenty often.

A transmission has a lot more moving parts that interact with eachother in a much harsher way then the internals of your engine.

Yeah but every time I change mine it still looks fresh and clean...
I change mine about twice a year or so and so far every time I've drained it the fluid looks brand new still..
I wouldn't change it more than a few times a year unless you are racing...
MTF is formulated differently than regular oil so it protects your transmission parts more effectively....

which reminds me - I posted the question somewhere else, but maybe someone here knows...
what is the optimum operating temp range for Honda MTF?
