Tornado???
"Tornado" : This is supposed to twist air into your intake better or something like that to burn the fuel better blah blah blah, supposed to give up to 13 hp, up to 25% better mileage blah blah blah. I've heard both sides of the story on this, and really just need to see how many of you know for a fact works/doesn't work, or have heard works/doesn't work, personally it sounds like a really good concept, would love to have it, if it works, thanx for you help
the company name is "tornado" as far as it looks. They are in most summit and JCwhitney sport compact catalogs, I didn't really even bother to look at it until I heard some of my friends talking about it, then I opened up a JCWhitney and read the mini-article/sales pitch to go with it. It instals inside the air intake hose, suposed to help the air burn faster and cleaner. It states "Tornado creates a mini whirlwind of air to ensure best fuel atomization possible. price $64.99 agian, it sounded like bull to me, but I have had people swear to it, and never heard anyone that actually owned one say it was bull; I figure a poll will help me decide weather or not to "waste" the money
I personally think it's a big hoax--my dad was looking at their website one day. The actual concept works, with proof shown by the tests they did. But if you think about it though, wouldn't that "twist" of air go into the intake manifold as a pattern instead of a big, consistant flow? If so, wouldn't that mean your engine would run rough if it was getting large amounts of air, then regular, then large, then regular, etc?? I'm no scientist, but that's the idea I came up with. Any others?
13 hp from an intake? Bull. Who makes it?

OBD1 ludes make about that much from a CAI.
but that tornado is total bull. a local shop dynoed it and got a 2-4 HP loss.

There is an old SCC issue (Aug'99?) where they test the Tornado. It's around 4 pages long with dynotests. SCCs conclusion was; the way the Tornado company tested the power difference was on a much older dyno. Remember the ones that expressed horsepower on a dial meter like a clock? They stated that the power differences from run-to-run varied almost 3 or 4hp. On top of that, what the "Tornado" company doesn't tell you is that the before and after dyno tests were run in two different gears. The first run in 4th gear, then the second run in 3rd gear. On the older dynomometers a 3rd and 4th gear pull would vary greatly, yeilding the "65% power increase" they claim.
In one word.........worthless.

Anyone who has any knowledge will figure out "tornado" is the dumbest thing every invented. Even a stock engine with an aftermarket t/b (even 68mm) will NOT see any performance gains, it bottle necks at intake manifold. Let alone a stupid piece of metal. The person who invented that is almost as stupid as people who sells books on America's 9-11 tragety...
