tiptronic??
hey. yeah i have a tiptronic. its been good so far. nutting compared to a manual tho. ALTHO. the tiptronic tranny on the preludes are supposed to be the worst honda parts ever made. Its advised that you don't abuse the tranny with downshifting and driving at high rpms.
i think you should go for a manual transmission or switch it to a manual at a later date.
go to this thread i posted. just scroll down n they posted alot more info. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=925161

will it hurt the motor if you move out of the tiptroic when you start to slow down.....traffic in houston sucks and i dont wanna bother w/ a manual... just looking for options......is there a difference between 97-01 auto trannys.....and just how long will it take me to "become the car" and get used to the 5 speed

be concerned with moving it in and out when the car actually shifts other than that you shouldn't have any problems with moving it in and out of man/auto. keep in mind that honda has had alot of problems with the tranny.
thats why they extended the factory warranty on the tranny to 100k.
I got a tiptronic strictly for all of the city driving. it's considerably slower (lag time) than a 5 sp. i have been pretty hard on mine and no problems w/65k.

Be advised Honda only extended the warranty to 100k miles on the 2000 and 2001 Ludes...

when i use my tiptronic i just keep it on auto or manual til i stop driving, cuz its juss safer that way. but if i wanna race or sumthing and im in auto. i get into a safe rpm like 2-3 rpm in 3rd or a safe rpm like 3-4 on 4th before i change. risking copmlications from the auto n manual is unnessesary in my opinion. even more cuz of honda's poor tranny.
