Thinking of purchasing a 3rd Gen
I was bored and couldn't get to sleep last night so I went for a drive around looking at used car lots. I was just cruising around and spotted a nice shiny 3rd gen Si. It was very clean and only had a little spot of rust on the rear quarter panel (as with most 10+ year old Hondas in the Northeast) I'm looking for a beater to get to work in while I build my LS and I'm thinking this might be a good one.
I just have a little question, on each fender around where a side marker would be, there was a DOHC VTEC sticker. That got me wondering what the hell is under the hood. I'm not much of a Prelude man (especially older ones) so I don't know what they could have in them. But looking around I see that they either have a B20A or a B21A. To my knowledge, these are not VTEC engines. Is it possible that this car really has VTEC or did the previous owner just slap some stickers on it to be "cool" ( ::cough:: ricer! ::cough, cough:: )
It was awfully dark on the lot and I'm 90% sure it was a manual but I can't guarantee it. It was also 5AM so I couldn't ask to see it.
Also my knowledge of older Preludes isn't too great to say the least so I'm not sure of the year. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a '91 but don't hold me to it. I'm going to give the guy a call tomorrow regardless to see what he's asking for it, but I'd like to know a little about the car first.
Sorry if the sentences change topic randomly, lack of sleep (as usual) and ADHD will do that to ya

True. The only vtec engine for the prelude is the h22. Unless the previous owner swaped one in. The h22 was not offered in the U.S. until '93.

I figured as much... I'm still going to give it another look though. It was completely stock besides those stickers from what I saw.

Yes, if it was an si though it had a b21a, which is a very rare motor, I really wish I had kept mine
They are very hard to find, especially in good shape and with 4ws. I would look more into it.

b21's are rare but you do not want one. notorious oil burners due to the frm sleeves honda used on them. you are much better of with a b20 trust me. i had a b21 and almost put in more oil than gas. took a qt like every 300 miles and it just gets worse. oil blowby like no other.
