Thermostat install - wrong?
Is there a way to screw this up? I noticed in the shop manual to install it with the 'pin up'. I tried to do this as well as I could, but it's not an easy task to do while trying to put the cover back on while the rest of the assembly is still on the engine.
Will the thermostat housing go back on properly if the thermostat isn't in there properly, or will it not fit at all.
Reason I'm asking is because I've installed the Mugen thermostat a few weeks back, but the car still managed to overheat. Would putting it in wrong have done this?

I'm having the same porblem. Was overheating, upper radiator hose hot, lower cold. Ran it without thermostat to make sure water pump is pumping and circulating coolant, its is. Does not overheat without the thermostat and both of the hoses are warm, indicating that the coolant is circulating. So I replaced the thermostat and the new one is still not openeing. The upper radiator hose is hot and the lower one cold with the new thermostat installed. What the heck could be causing it not to open?

put it in a pot of boiling water and watch for yourself if it opens or not.

Currently I'm running a Civic Half Rad, Slim Fan, Rad block off plate (next to radiator to force air to go through it), Mugen Thermostat, Mugen Fan switch.
Yes, it was overheating before the thermostat and the coolant was bled by taking the rad cap off and running the car with the heat/fan all the way full.
