Default Temperature Question

My temp gauge has been goofy lately. When my car is just sitting warming up say it wil read normal temp when its supposed to. Then once i start driving it it drops down to half temp. The one night even after beating on it for a good 15 min it was still only half temp. What might be the problem the thermostat?? Also would i benefit from replacing it or could i get away without. Thanks

i'm kinda confused, u said u would let it warm up to normal temp and then when you start driving it would DROP to half temp, isnt normal temp a little under half, and shouldnt it stay there even with a beating, 15 min of vtec and mine stays just below half

I agree. Isn't normal operating temp. at half way on the temp. gauge?

Its probably that your thermostat is stuck open. When you thermostat is stuck open your temp gauge will drop because of the air temp. Swap the thermostat but I advise buying it from Honda. This recently happened to me and and I bought a thermo from Advance that was too small(they stock the wrong part). $30 part...maybe 60 min labor.

normal temp is half way or 2 bars what i meant was that say in the winter or in the mornings (its still a bit chilly) I start my car when i get in it will be 2 bars or half way on the gauge or normal operating temp. But when i drive it it drops to one bar or halfway between normal and 0 is what i had meant. Where is the thermostat at? If i just pop one of the radiator hoses off its right there correct by the IM manifold.

yea dude its your thermostat. Its on the left side of the engine if you are facing it from the front. Its pretty simple, drain the radiator, pop the thermostat out. The exact same thing happened to me a lil while ago. ITs a pain in the ***. But your thermostat is stuck open and when you pull it out you will see what i mean.

which hose is it located at. The front or the back? and by fixing this did you notice anything different other than the temp. staying constant? I guess im wondering if it really needs to be fixed at the moment or can it wait. As is seems it is hurting nothing but you never know.

Its in the back on the water neck. It is nothing of emergency to fix, i ran mine that way for about a month. I just got sick of having no heat. Basically your thermo is stuck open so your coolant never is on a closed loop to get hot. Check out a diagram online and you should have no problem. Good luck, and remember to get the part from honda

Well then it seems like you dont need to fix it right away. Leaving the thermostat stuck open shouldnt cause any major problems.

Unless you notice you start to overheat you shouldnt have any problems.
