Default Strange cold start!?

This morning I woke up late so I didn't have to to let my car warm up. When I took it out of gear the RPM's up raised the droppped back and forth; the IAV valve most likey. Then it went away after warmed up some more. Then I noticed on freeway temp gauge was over red. I pulled over and checked, fan was running and radiator didn't fell hot at all! I turned the heat full blast, but it was cold, I then got to work and it still said it was overheating when it wasn't, WTF? TIA!

no coolant!! check it as soon as it's cooled down a bit! Sounds like a major leak somewhere.
