Stereo system questions
I haven't pick up my Prelude yet but...
The trunk of the Prelude has 2 parts, the narrow part (towards the back seat), and the wider part (towards the rear bumper).
What sub box size will fit in the narrow part? I don't want the sub box to encroach the wider part as I obviously would like to have trunk space. I've heard that a depth of 12" and a height of 12" would fit in there??? But how about width???
I plan to have two 10" JL Audio subwoofers in the box.
Where do you people mount your amp? I will have a Pioneer GX-M554.

Deadly-Lude here on the board has a box that fits PERFECTLY exactly where you're talking about putting it. I don't know what it is or where he got it, but I can find out. He's actually selling his subs and box. I don't know whether he would be willing to sell the box separately or not, but if you want me to I can ask him.
Nah I don't need to buy them from someone else. I'm just gonna get the box custom made locally. Yes, please find out the dimensions of the box. It has to fit two 10" JL-AUDIO subs...
I have two JL 10s in my 88 lude and had a box custom made to fit in the hole as described above. There is pleny of volume available to sound good and not extend past the "narrow" area. The shop just measured and built it. I mounted my amp on the front side of the box. This way I can drop the pass through portion of the seat and adjust/show off the amp. You should have the woofers pointing toward the trunk so that thay are using the trunk as a sealed box. It will depend on what type of box you use. A band pass box will need to be largest and a sealed box should be the smallest. Ported will be in between. If I remember correctly I am running 1.3 cubic feet for my 10s which is on the smaller side. Which JL 10s are you getting? Generically as you go up in the series number ( ie W0, W1, W3, etc) you can use a smaller box, but you will need more power to get the same SPL out of it. I have a Kicker and a Pheonix Gold that I use for my two systems. The phoenix is .5 ohm stable, while the kicker is only 1 ohm I believe. Be sure that what ever amp you get it has some true power cuase your system will sound like crap if you use an underpwered amp. Don't belive that a "California Profile" 600W amp will sound anywhere near as good as my 75W Pheonix gold. You should be Ok with you Pioneer, but I can't say for sure since I haven't bought a system for several years.

it all depends on the power of the amp and the type of sub. with the amp that you have it's probably better off getting w0 or w1 subs, but i would recomend the w3 with about 250w rms per subs. and about the box if you purchase the 5th gen the box should be about 31x14 and the depth sould be about 9 on the bottom and 6-7 on top. will also recomend that you replace the 6x9 on the rear deck with a 5.25 mounted without a plate on the corners of the opening to use the left over stock speaker holes as ports. the bass response will be a lot better. the amp can be placed on the box or on the seat. if you plan on removing the box for space the seat is better so you don't have to disconnect all the wires to get the box out.
what do you guys think about those sub tubes? I'm not looking for a "show car' sound system, just something with more boom that the stock system. I actually think the stock Prelude stereo is great. I love it. But it could use some more bass. Not for annoying people in cars around me, but for more thump in my car. Would a bass tube be enough or are they crappy? I saw some that have built in amps and I would simply installi t and run it off the stock head unit with the stock speakers.
any problem with that?

You're talking about them bazooka tubes...they're alright. I had four 6 1/2" bazooka tubes in my '88 Nissan Pulsar. It sounded alright, but didn't quite hit those low deep notes too well.
Currently, I have two Crossfire P1 subs hooked up to one Crossfire BMF1000d. I bridged them down to two ohms...so each sub is getting about 250rms each. Sounds good and loud..but the whole trunk rattles like mad.
I say just stick to regular subs...no tubes.
