Default Starting Problem

Hey I'm new to this site but I have a 1992 Prelude SI and it Won't Start when it is hot out. It is cranking but it won't fire over. It is fine in the winter but as soon as the spring hits forget it. I have to wait till it cools down to start the car. Does anyone out there know why this would be happening. I would really appreciate it.

could be a lot of stuff...when it doesnt start check for spark and fuel pressure...then we can give you a better idea...could be a lot of stuff like a fuel pump, dizzy, main relay...just need more info.

Yeah I've been searching and it seems this Main Relay is a real PITA and may attribute to this.

I work with the original poster and had a look at it in the parkinglot. I checked for obvious things like battery and cable connection, filter clogging and general making sure the hoses and sensors but we really didnt have any diagnosing tools handy.

I was thinking this may be a common problem among Prelude owners so I advised him to ask you guys.

We can probably pull the plugs fairly easily during lunch but are there any other little things we can try without dealing with the local Honda mechanic?

yeah i named some of the things that go bad reguraly on hondas...so start by looking there...just when it doesnt start check if it has spark...if it doesnt...i would start with a new dizzy which is pretty expensive....if you do have spark and it wont start then i would move on to check fuel pressure, injector pulse etc.

I dont know your cars too well but where can we find this thing? Is it a relay under the dash somewhere or is it something in a fuse box under the hood? Numbers, locations, colors, whatever you got. Thanks again though everyone, this is a whole lot better than one man pissin in the wind.

its underneath the dash, on the driver side, usually they are held on by 10mm bolts

when you get the relay out ,,,take it apart. get a magnifing glass and if you look closely there is a crack on 1 or 2 of the sodering, just get a sodering gun and resoder that ( those ) cracked connections works like a charm i have done dozens of them do not buy a new relay
