Default start up question

Would a motor ping on start up? Doesn't the motor have to be hot for the pinging to begin? If this is happening would my timing be too far advanced?

your motor isn't pinging,

yes it could happen on startup but i really doubt it,

did you change your timming at all from where keith had it?

It could... Doesn't have to be hot. Timing too far off could cause it.
Unless you are meaning knock?

Well when I had the distributor replaced and valves adjusted I would assume the would adjust timing. So I am thinking maybe Keith had it at a certain degree, and then when it got put back together it was set different. It doesn't sound like knocking it sounds like pinging.

Are you sure that the valve adjustment was done properly?

I would assume Honda mechanics know how to do them, I took it to them. I even talked to the guy that did it and he said he did it to specs, seemed like a cool guy, not working to screw anyone over. So yeah I would assume that it was done correctly.

I noticed today after all my gas was gone, I am getting worse gas mileage. Would that be a cause of incorrect timing?

could. Just check your timing. Doesn't take long.

Thanks I appreciate the help. Should it be set around 17 or below?
