Default Stalling!!

i have a 93 Vtec prelude with 142,000 miles. it stalls everytime i push in the clutch and come to a stop! when i push in the clutch the rpms go straight to zero(sometimes the car tries to stay running). its been doing this for a while on and off. it'll be fine for about a month but then it'll start stalling again. i live in florida where its really hot. it seems that my car stalls because of the hot weather. but SOMETIMES its fine when its hot out! when its cold its fine especially at night. my car's not overheating or anything. i don't get it, its so frustrating!! it does the same EXACT thing Eleanor does in Gone in 60 seconds, where the car is dying and its starts shaking making a funny idle then dies. what could it be!!! has anyone experienced this before. i hope this makes sense to all the readers cause i explained it the best as can.

Does it happen when it is only in gear? How does the car idle when in neutral?

I had a similar problem. Is it harder to start when it's hot? Does it idle normally? Will it start while rolling if you dump the clutch? Check your main relay, IAC Valve as well as your igniter.

i know mine is vacuum related. i have the exact same problem.

as rick mentioned to me, Vacuum problems are heat dependent. thats why when its colder out you are idling higher etc.

i blame mine on the duct tape, but it could very well be a cloged EGR... clogged by the DUCT tape....

why would the main relay do this? if it were a relay it wouldnt care about the temp of the engine.

No, check the hub caps. I guarantee that's the problem.

heat raises, vacuum problem gets worse. with an improper vacuum the car will not want to start.

if we were talking carb'd engines then it wouldnt be a vacuum problem, but then again it still wouldnt be a main relay problem either

You're both wrong. It's the lug nuts, it's torqued too tight causing stress to the shafts/transmission.

The engine has to work harder, therefore the car stalls.

My 92 Lude is doing similar idle problem. It doesn't do it every time I clutch, but if my car has been sitting for a while then I drive, I will stall until my car warms up. What is a good/normal idle? I'm idling at like 700ish.. Unfortunately it sometimes drops lower then that, and is pissing me off. Usually at night my car will feel its strongest.

ahh same prob..93 si vtec..

when i start the car (in cold weather)

- idles rough/high from like 2.25-2.75 rpms
- after it dies down of course, when ive been drivin for a bit..if i clutch to stop (in gear or not) it drops a lot of times to 0 and stalls

neutral it idles at about 700 too maybe even 500 sometimes..and fluctuates from 500-250. if i step on the clutch, it drops lower almost every time.. so its basically i have trouble in the cold..dont rem havin this problem like 2 months ago in warm weather.

I finally took my car to a mechanic today and got it fixed!!!! Dropped her off, went home and waited for them to call. I couldn't wait to find out what the problem was. anyways, the mechanic called and told me that my car was ready!! my mechanic told me it was nothing major. All he did was ADJUSTED and CLEANED the IDLE AIR SYSTEM. everything was fine after that!!! it feels so much better that i don't have to worry about stalling at every stop anymore!! i hope everyone with this same problem can get it fixed also. Good Luck!
