i just started up my car leaving a friends house and my speedometer and odometer arent working anymore!...
do i have to replace the whole gauge cluster?
how do i check to see what it is..

Sometimes the needles get stuck, and can be freed by hitting a bump. Do you have a set of indiglo dash lights? This can be a cause. Obviously it could be something worse, but it's good to rule out the simple **** first.

hopefully i will hit a bump and that will fix it all. i tried like hitting it with my hand and the needle will move a tad then stop.
and no it is the stock/original gauge cluster.

 

Sounds like your VSS gears are going out. Same with mine, speedometer and odometer doesn't work. Some times it will work for a couple of miles then start dropping up and down then finally not work at all then a CEL will follow. Still haven't replaced this yet though, its been about 4-5 months lmao. Damn college students
