Default Speedometer cable replacement in 89 Prelude - Help

Hey, does anyone here have any practicle experience in replacing the speedo cable in the 89 model? From what I gather from the dealership, it's a two piece cable. I've identified the cable and it's just above the valve cover. There's a coupling in the middle which allows you to replace either the upper or lower half of the cable. But I can't see either end of the cable (on the tranny or behind the firewall).

My question - Can anyone give me any pointers on what to remove (instrument panel, other auxiallry pieces) or other helpful procedures?

Thanks
Russ

I can tell you for sure that the lower half just goes down into the speed sensor. Remove as much of your air intake as practical, and you should be able to get at it just fine. It's just held into the sensor by a metal clip: just pull it out, the old cable comes out, the new one goes in, and the clip goes back on. It'll take a little finagling, but you'll get it.

I took out the instrument cluster once before. It's quite a pain in the ***. As I recall, there are a number of screws around the inside of the bezel, you remove those and then CAREFULY pry very hard, and it comes off. Then the cluster is held in by some screws. I wasn't behind there to get at the speedo cable though, so that's as far as I can help you. Basically, just be very patient and through in finding all the screws, and you wont have any problems.
