Thats just how it is. Maybe let the car roll a little as you're trying to get it in.

Note that you can't go from 5th to reverse, there is a lockout.

hate to say it, but maybe that is normal. my car seems to sometimes have this "mysterious" gear that it tries to shift into instead of reverse (just doesn't go sometimes). as long as you're not grinding course mine's a 4th gen...what do i know?

i have this too, im almost sure its normal.. but what i do is stick it in 1st, then back into reverse.. if it doesn't happen it slides in, if it does lock me out, it feels like it goes through 2 steps. (2 separate pops) i haven't had one so stiff that i couldn't do it with my finesse shifting tho. (u know, when i have a burger in my lefthand pulling out of parking spot)

^-- yes i do that, no powersteering either.. recipe for disaster.. probably.. but i R hungy. yes hungy.

what i find is that if i simply release and depress the clutch again and try to put it in reverse, it goes right in when this happens.

matt. you let your's roll while putting it into reverse?i thought you weren't suppose to do this. i tried this before on accident and it grinded the eff out of reverse. it's cuz it has no synchro right?

Correct, no syncro.

I don't mean do it while moving at 5mph. I mean if it won't fully engage the gear let the car move some, or mess with the clutch a slight bit and it should pop in.

I don't at all mean to say that jammed or fully locked out reverse gears are normal, they're not. BUT, there is a definite problem with Prelude transmissions that causes that often.

oh, I thought that was normal for our trannies LOL
or atleast a staple.

Yeah and don't go forcing it if it won't go. As like mgags said above you could pop it into first (if possible)(or even second, but don't stall it or ur a nurd)let the car move a bit (not even a foot is needed really, the gears just need to rotate a bit as far as I know) and then go back into reverse.

It is the lockouts that are responsible for 1st and reverse correct??

The only lockout is for Reverse, and it only blocks going 5th to reverse.

You can't get into first well when moving because your first gear syncro is wearing out. My current trans is a lot like that (M2S4) but my old M2F4 was butter into first, I could get into first at like 20mph with that trans.

i have the same thing...what i do is go as far back into reverse until it stops you, then release the clutch slightly (maybe 1/4) as im going into reverse and it'll slide right in no problems
