Default Shifting Problems

My car is brand new and when i first started to race it, I was shifting fine from first through all the gears. Then after a while, i keep on grinding from first to second (most of the time). I am really frustrated right now because I am going to the track in 3 days. I need some advice or something.
I think I release the clutch to soon. Would a short shifter adapter help.

One more thing... When you guys drag race... Do you get a big chirp from first to second. How about second to third.

Most likely, you're feet are too fast on the clutch...and/or you've worn the sh*t out of your clutch already. Chirping your gears doesn't make your drag any faster and turns your clutch into asbestos shavings. A short shoft kit only makes the shift-stroke shorter, doesn't change the fundamentals of the clutch or tranny. Get an aftermarket heavy-duty clutch if you're gonna be racing your lude a lot. And a fat bank account for when you hose your tranny.

Take it from a import veteran... I had a 1991 naturally-aspirated CRX modified to the hilt... I was a weekly street dragger... replaced my tranny 4 times, clutch 5 times... but I only owned the car 4 years! Take it easy or you'll be putting a $2k investment into a new clutch and tranny... every so often.

.. then again if you're rich and like burnouts and chirps, go for it!

Later,

You may have worn your clutch down. Just have to start be a little more careful with it. Before you know it, you are going to have to buy a new clutch and flywheel

Well I just installed a new pedal set and they have good clearance for the clutch.
I think I just have to press the clutch a little deeper or throw the gears a little quicker. Ludes have a really long throw its kinda annoying because when I drive my friends GSR Im like daym this gear box is sweet. I wish there was a short shifter kit for a Lude (damn cables). I wonder if those Neuspeed or the DC adapters are really worth the money.

Your tranny is getting messed up because your shifting to fast already.. You have worn down the syncro and the gear won't mesh properly.. Don't try to shift any faster, your trannny will just get worse..

You might wanna change your tranny fluid and put fresh honda MTF in..

Damn... what shoould I do to try to fix this. Im sure Honda wont fix it unless i pay right. That sux. Damaged tranny already. I did drive it really hard after 1000 miles now it has 5k. But when I shift fast around 6000 rpm its fine. It only happens when I shift at 7500 rpm. why is that? I think I should stop dragging too much. I thought Ludes could take this stuff. Guess not

Dude you are nuts to be racing a new car. Honda engines have a break in period anywhere from 3K to 10K miles (depending on who you ask). Severe use like frequent drag racing in the first few thousand miles can severely shorten the life of your motor. For a new motor/car you want to take it easy for the first 3K miles. You can rag it every now and then. What you don’t want to do is rag it often or drive at a constant RPM for long periods of time.

I shoud have taken my time breakin in my car. I had so much fun too running GSR's and other Ludes. Whats done is done. Nothing is wrong with my car. I just ordered a short shifter adapter from GroupBuy. I'll take it easy from now on.

Thanx for the help fellow LUdERs.

If you drag race, plan of fixing a lot of expensive stuff... You will learn the hard way.. If you wanna go fast in a striaght line, get a Z28

Based on similar swaps my car should run mid to high 14s. I got the engine about 6 weeks ago and the car's been in the shop for almost 4 weeks now (during which time I've been taking the frigging bus). It should have been a 3 day job, but there have been a lot of unforeseeable snags. My tab's up to $7,600 total now, so the thing better be damn quick!
