Default Ripping shiftcables

i have a 91 accord with a h22 swap. i just noticed recently, that for the second time, one of my shift cables is getting all chewed up. imnot sure why it keeps happening. the rubber outer cover is ripped. then there is a layer of metal wires that are also breaking... and under that is a plastic tube with a cable inside. last time i checked, that wasnt messed up yet... but why does it keep happening?

has anyone else ever had that problem?
