Default ringlands

ive heard all the problems with the h22 ringlands but it never said if they just crack and loose compression or do they break off and get in the motor....

also thought about cryo treating them .....

oh and will h23 pistons work on the h22 rods...what would that do to compression ??

I heard that if you ran 9:1 h23a pistons in a H22, you get a CR of about 8.5:1... so i would assume that if you ran the stock 9.8:1 h23 pistons, you would probably get a CR of about 9.2-9.4:1.
I might be way off though.

well i have the h22 and would like to turbo my car....if i could get away with 10psi on the factory pistons i would do that ...if not i would like to lower it with out sleeving ..so i was thingking the h23 pistons.....85 is pretty low so it might not work good on 10psi..mihgt be better of at 10.6 and thiker headgasket

they will break right off and most likely killing your motor. Too much heat/lack of lubrication will wear out the ringlands.

I would just order some forged turbo pistons, they're lighter and stronger. Do it right the first time

Well all the H23a pistons we have are 9.8:1. If put on an H22a crank and rods in an H22a motor CR drops to 9.3:1. So Machine it's 9.3:1 for H23A1 pistons on H22a crank and rods.

10 psi is doable on an H22 with a well thought out fuel setup, electronic engine management, and GOOD TUNING. I wouldn't recommend boosting more than 10, though.

this is going to sound totally naive, but WTF are the ringlands?!?
Are they the part at the bottom of the piston? and if so getting a forged piston means that the ringlands on the piston are also stronger?!?! am I way off here?

see those little grooves on the side of the piston? those are ring lands. thats where the piston rings go. forged ringlands are stronger.
