Recommend an Indash navigation?
Anyone have a gps head unit indash or popup for a fifth gen? any pics? Looking for an indash 7 inch but doesn't seem like anyone has one that'll fit the prelude. I want a factory look so am shying away from the pop up, and i'm also worried the pop up will block the a/c vents.

Just based on my experience selling both eclipse and pioneer, I'd go with a Pioneer Nav unit. The Z series are good if you have the dough to blow, otherwise the D series is a good compromise.

i have a jensen vm9021ts and im very pleased with it, but all of the pioneer units are great
the z3 will fit in a 5th gen no problem i installed one the other day, just make sure you get the right harness, which im sure you allready know that
but if you would be willing to wait a few weeks pioneer is releasing a new doubledin model, my pioneer rep told me about it, but i havent had a chance to look into it... but from what he told me its very very nice lol with some upgrades the z3 dosent have
heres mine

I tossed the jensen Vm9021ts into my lude for a week while I went on a trip just to have something to keep the gf from naggin lol. It worked well, the only thing I couldn't stand was the volume difference between FM/CD and the TV tuner. I can't remember which way it was, but I think the TV tuner was way quite and when you switched to FM it was hellishly loud (may have been the other way around)
EDIT> The eclipses w/the hard drive based nav are nice, you can scroll the map like you can with google maps, but some of the other features atleast on the AVN7000 were very lack-luster. You could plug both the IPod adaptor and Sirius into the unit, but one you had to flip dip-switchs and put it into changer mode otherwise the screen would constantly "soft-reset" while you heard audio from both. In changer mode you lost all text display on the screen (artist/song info). The other downside to the HDD based ones I heard from other locations was to upgrade the maps you couldn't just pop a disc in and the unit update the database.. you had to send the unit into eclipse for them to either pull the drive and replace it, or update via the usb jack behind the face or something goofy like that to the tune of $375

this is one one my boy has in his si...i reallly like it and it's on sale at circuitcit for 500.00 new
but the screen isn't that clear watching dvd's and i want 7 inch so it fills the space better, like the one in the first pic, for a factory look.
or maybe i should wait for one that's compatible with the new digital signals so i can watch live tv. anyone have info on whether on will be available?

Happen to catch this little snippet while trying to find an ATSC receiver for mobile use:
Mobile reception of digital stations using ATSC has (until now) been difficult to impossible, especially when moving at vehicular speeds. To overcome this, there are several proposed systems that report improved mobile reception: Samsung/Rohde & Schwarz's A-VSB, Harris/LG's MPH, and a recent proposal from Thomson/Micronas; all of these systems are expected to be submitted as candidates for a new ATSC standard, ATSC-M/H. This is in addition to other proprietary standards like MediaFLO, and worldwide open standards such as DVB-H and DMB-T. Like DVB-H and ISDB 1seg, the proposed ATSC mobile standards are backward-compatible with existing tuners, despite being added to the standard well after the original standard was in wide use.
Mobile reception of some stations will still be more difficult, because 18 UHF channels in the U.S. have been removed from TV service, forcing some broadcasters to stay on VHF. This band requires larger antennas for reception, and is more prone to electromagnetic interference from engines and rapidly-changing multipath conditions.

i assume that;s the Avic d3, but my question is does that monitor your accelaration, i think your tourque output, and also g-forces.

-take the existing bracket off of the original honda headunit and use that, the holes should line up no problem, if you dont have one, ebay or a junkyard will have one cheap, the problem is that it can be easy to take out without the anti theft stuff. so be careful
as far as the digital (atsc) channels go this was my solution
i took a tv converter box (with antenna) and a power inverter and wired it up to the Jensen's brain, and used the remote the converter box came with to chnge the channels, some of the stations dont work very well (parked or driving) but im getting a clean signal from my major channels in the dfw area, no static/distortion or anything like that... it sounds like alot to do but i thought it would be a cool project to do one day when i was bored and it worked quite well
also circuit city is most likely going to drop the prices on the d3 (lower than the current 599 price to be below 500) pretty soon because of pioneers new models coming out in a few weeks (if you have to ask, i work for ccity) so you may want to keep an eye out for that

as for that little problem, yes its on mine too, but not as extreme as it seems to be for you, there is a volume difference but for me its not loud enough to cause any discomfort

looking to save a few bucks? pick up a Rand-McNally road atlas for $8.95 at your local 7-11 and you'll save HUNDREDS....or you could even save the $8.95 by looking up where you're going on the internet before you leave the house.
I have a Pioneer AVIC-Z1
the only differences in the models from year to year are more maps and Points of Interest. Get yourself a Z1 or Z1 and the map disc(s) and you'll have a Z3 too. I don't know if the AVIC D series play DVDs, but all the Z series do and the voice commands and bluetooth connection to your phone with the Z's is pretty PIMP and convenient

you can get the upgrade disc from Pioneer for 250 bucks. the differences are upgraded maps . I'd start with abt.com or bizrate.com and do some price comparisons on the different Z models. you'll find the Z1 and Z2 for pretty cheap these days.
