On a stock or mostly stock car, no way. On a turbo car, they make a big difference and will still let you pass emissions (I passed with 780 cc injectors and a 3 inch random tech cat), but having no cat is the best option (not best for the environment though)

Only if you have a non-stock exhaust.

I got one because it was alot less expensive then the OEM cat... and it is well made.

Is it a direct bolt on, or do you have to weld on the flanges?

It's direct bolt on no welding need on flange. If you need a used one let me know I have one for sale.

i have one on my car, It seems to be working well. I used to have a stainless test pipe bolted in. I notice alot of the raspy tone is gone now that i've got the cat in. Sounds alot better.

I've noticed that the exhaust is a little louder with the Random Cat.

is the random tech cat better than the magnaflow one>? cause i hear both are pretty good. cause i was thinking of getting it on my 5th gen sh and all i got on it now is APEXI N1 exhaust and V2 intake but i plan on installing it once i get mugen headers.

I used to have a carsound cat with my N1 and stock header - made the exhaust a tad throatier yet not much louder (which is good since it was loud enough). I kept throwing CEL 67 though, which got annoying since it deactivated atts, so be prepared to get an o2 sim. right now I have a rage header and Im planning to get a 2.5" cat and mate it to either the N1 or get a 2.5" exhaust from kteller. Not sure which yet.

I properly working cat should not cause issues related to code 67. I've had a Car Sound in the past and now have a Random Tech, have had troubles with neither.

Does the cat add any distortion or alter the exhaust sound any at all? And between Car Sound and Random Technology, which one worked better for you and why?

No way I can say which worked better, the Car Sound was a 2.5" diameter piece, the Random Tech I'm using now is a stock replacement (2" diameter) piece.
