Random bracket

I have found this on all Honda models that my friends have but specifically on my prelude that i just got. What is the random bracket that is on the front of Honda engines? Specifically the h22a's. It is on the drivers side of the car right next to the valve cover below the bolt. It just bothers me that it is there looking like it has no purpose.

That bracket is used to lift the engine out with an engine jack.
