I don't know why the dealer is even charging you $90 dollars for a radio code. They are not supposed to charge you for that. All you need to do is take out the radio and get the serial number and call the service department with the number and ask them for the code. Tell them you just got the car and the previous owner didn't give you the code. I did that but then again I actually got the car and the dealer didn't give me the code. Either way the dealer shouldn't be charging for that.

 

The dealer should be charding for that, Its a dealership.

Go to your dealership in person, they'll look up the radio code via the VIN #.

 

If your local dealership won't do it just pm me and I'll give you the number to the local dealership near me. They are very helpful with that sort of thing and do not charge for it.

 

You can't get the code from the VIN you need the serial number

Uh no. I lost my radio code, gave the dealer my VIN and had my radio code within minutes.

 

I just took my radio to the dealership and they gave me the code within 5 min.

 

they will only give you the code for the radio if you know the corresponding address of the vehicle

you can find your code by lifting the coin tray out.....and there should be a sticker with the #'s on it.. that should be your code...

They won't give you the code over the phone, PERIOD. This is what I did: I made appointment with local Honda dealer. I unmounted the radio so it could be taken out anytime before I took it to dealer. They wanted to charge me $50 just to pop out the plastic frame, and look up the code. I knew it, that was why I prepared. They required nothing, no ID, no ownership proof,.... (may be different at other dealers). One of the service advisor drove my car inside the shop, punched in the serial # into his computer and give me the code. That was it, plain and simple.

 

they wouldn't give it to me over the phone. called around at like three dealerships. finally took it to one close to my house and pulled the unit itself out of the car and just walked up to the service guy at his desk. had the code in two seconds and he even wrote the code on the bottom of the unit itself, which says a lot for their faith in "anti-theft" to begin with. could just be my dealership. good luck, bring it to them, and if they still charge, go somewhere else.

 

Yea, the only reason they ask for the VIN is to ensure that you actually have the car that the radio is from or to make sure it just isn't stolen. I bought a 97 prelude oem radio from ebay and they made sure to give me the VIN because it didn't come with my particular car. Usually dealers will do it over the phone but otherwise you can go there and give them the VIN and the serial number. Good luck!

 

Get me the serial number off the radio unit and email me. I can get you the code from my dealer.

 

I just purchased a 00 Prelude SH, It used to say Error Code 8, but I think I pressed a few buttons then send Error Code 9, stupid me pressed a few keys again and then it said "Error Code", I realized then somone tried 8 times before me then I tried 2 other times and now it locks up on "Error Code". can't press anything anymore. How do I get it to reset and be able to enter code?!?!!? Do I REALLY have to take out the radio to get the serial?!?! don't want to do that as I never done it before.

 

try undoing one of the battery terminals to clear the error codes so it resets back to 1, its pretty easy to take out the radio, pop off that panel that surrounds the radio with a screwdriver, and four screws hold the radio
