QuickCompression Questions(searched)
Hello all. Just joined today.
I have a few quick questions concerning compression and skunk2 camshafts.
I was wondering what the MINIMUM compression would be while running the skunk2 stage3 camshafts. I'm hoping to be able to get 12:1 - would that be insufficient?
Also, does anyone know at what rpm those cams STOP making power? Or would I have to dyno for that?

Not sure - I'm getting ready to run the stageIIs. I know you have to be able to rev to around 10,000 though. So a tight as valvetrain is required. I would think 13:1 compression would be sufficient, but i'm not sure. It would be hard as hell to start the vehicle.
As long as you know what you're doing - I hope this setup of yours comes out great. Nothing better than a nice NA vehicle. That SCREAMS vteeec............love it.
Get a Hondata s300 and tune the crap outa your engine.

Skunk2 StageIII Cams
Skunk2 Valvetrain w/ high compression valves
KMS Valve Guides
Skunk2 IM
Skunk2 68mm TB or ported TB
Eagle HBeam Rods
Mahle Gold Series Pistons 11.5:1 cr
Thin headgasket - not sure which one yet
Hondata system. Might do the s300 like you said.
New Clutch w/8lb flywheel
I'm thinking about raising the rev limiter to 10,000.
I'm also going to get my head port/polished with 5 angle job
I wonder what ET i would be able to push out. What do you think?

Hmm......I'm assuming you have a decent suspension setup. I would say you should be able to do low 13s high 12s with that. Maybe. If you're a good driver. I'm a skunk2 junkie myself. I'm actually doing a similar setup, not sure about the manifold though. If someone else would give their input - you could get a more accurate estimate.
Have a good time when one of your skunk2 cams break and they wont replace it for you
Id say look into crower. At least they stand behind their product. **** go JUN, they stand behind their **** too.
And dude, he was talking about compression ratio, not drag times. " high 13's low 12's if your a good driver" wtf?
If you are going with stage 3's id say go the higest compression possible without detonation. Being that we are talking H series you really only have 3 options as it stands. 1. Type S pistons 2. JUN pistons ( $1200 a set ) or try a Mahle gold piston but its already been noticed their fitment is less than perfect. 3. Resleeve and run forged. no bottom end work + 10K rpms = KABOOM.

Nah - I'ma stick with Skunk2. I know some people who've have great results. If you break the cams - man, they have to seriously be on a load. I don't go to the track or anything. This is just my street car. ****, I barely get to drive my car - except for friday evenings and the weekends maybe. I trust them enough. Plus, I got a good deal for my cams.

You didn't read his posts did you? He is doing bottom end work. And he did say something about his ET - if you look at his next few posts........
So - i suggest you delete your "WTF"......and all that stuff. Feel me?.....can't flame if you didn't read it properly.

What the hell are you talking about? Seriously?
If you look at the fourth post - his - it'll say "I wonder what ET i would be able to push out. What do you think?"......
And before that - he's talking about changing rods and pistons.........
.......smokers.......don't know what to tell ya. I'm not about to argue something when i know i'm right.

What exactly is your point? Hm? What are you going to do? Narc on me? So what? I'll just create another user name. Its not like I've been here a week or something
I'm glad you're taking your time to look these things up.

lol how many H series on mahle gold pistons do you know of ? how many have you seen hit 10K ? lol for ***** sake. Can you not see what im trying to tell you ?
Well i guess you will just have to learn the hard way. Have a good time.
Mind telling me what the sticky on the first ******* page says ? Do you need me to help you ? .:

Now what would you think this means? Uh um geee, maybe i should read it first before making any posts to this new forum im in. Nahh that would require entirely to much brain power.
Im just trying to help you from spending all this money to build this motor, then realizing it wont get anywhere safely near 10K nor has there been any good information or proven results with mahle gold series pistons. You get what you pay for in this hobby. You skimp out on valvetrain and cams, when they fail you got yourself a nice large 100lb piece of scrap aluminum that used to be your head.

He guessed at the answers to your questions.
You're trying to get him not to use the Mahle pistons........I don't think its going to work. You came in here cursing and whatnot - and now you expect him to take your advice? Ha......good way of getting your point across. Also, he said he was "THINKING" about doing 10k - doesn't mean he's going to do it. It depends on who tunes his vehicle. They'll give him advice. Calm down. Its really not this deep.
He did exactly what I EXPECTED from EVERYONE. I didn't just expect him to reply to my questions. I wanted EVERYONE to give their comments/suggestions without being an ***. He was very helpful in my opinion. He never said that I will get a certain TIME and I think his opinions were pretty decent because I've heard the same thing from people in my home town.
Instead of trying to bash him - give me some more advice. Without the language - the other guy said(or atleast tried to say) the mahle pistons weren't that great. So anything else?
He never said a word about my pistons - so its not like he said I had great pistons or something. Why are you guys being like this? Is this how everyone on H-T is? This is seriously rediculous.
I haven't tuned ANY. Whats your point? I'm not tuning my motor at all. I said that i was THINKING about doing 10k if the cams make power that high. Are you some rep from another company or something? Because you're really getting stressed out over some pistons. I don't have the pistons, nor did I order the pistons. I was thinking about getting the pistons. You've made your point about the pistons. Now what are you trying to prove?

Again how many H series have you seen tuned to run anywhere near 10K on the street or even in general for that matter. How many people have you seen with these pistons. Search on Mahle pistons in the prelude forum and tell me what you find.
I was talking to naptown asking how many cars he has tuned to 10K not you
Here is some more advice for you. Research and buy some good valvetrain parts. Dont just go out and load up on skunk2 products. Personally what would you rather have. A company that stands behind their products, has good customer service, has made efforts to better their product and warrantys broken parts. Or someone who just wants your money and could give a **** what happens to your car, you, and could care less about their product as long as they have your money.
Also keep this in mind. Japanese products and business ethics are 10 fold that of american. Japanese culture is based off respect and social status. They will bust their *** to make a customer happy. ( the shipping time does suck a fat one, just fair warning )
Im not a rep for any company. Im just an enthusiast who has worked on his car a shitload and has seen the trails and errors of other people enough to know whats going on. I dont want to see someone new blow their money and be disappointed because i can almost guarntee it. Also, whats going to be the purpose of this motor ? Street? Drag? AutoX ? Even if the cams make power to 10K running a stock H22 crank to 10K = bad news.
"I know you have to be able to rev to around 10,000 though. So a tight as valvetrain is required. I would think 13:1 compression would be sufficient, but i'm not sure. It would be hard as hell to start the vehicle"
Im getting pissed because you are feeding a new member missinformation. You shouldent talk about **** you dont understand.

Who? Who cares? I'm not tuning his motor - I never said anything about his pistons - I didn't say they were great, because I don't know **** about them. Nor did I say they were bad........dude, what is your point?
Is this some competition thing for you or something? I've NEVER tuned a vehicle in my life. How about that? Does it make you feel more like a man or something?
I'm still trying to figure out the big deal. If you think his pistons are wack(which he hasn't purchased yet) then you've made your point. No need to get your blood pressure that high for nothing.
Where are you going with this? I never said anything about his 10k rpm range anyway?.............
So you don't even know my opinion of it - so what are you talking about?

How is any of that misinformation? I contacted skunk2...............and they said that you would have to rev up in that range because the cams won't make power until very high rpms?......
The ******* cams are for race purposes - we dont' know if he's making a street car or a track car - so how am i giving him misinformation.....
He will definatley need compression in that range to get the full power out of the cams no doubt. And he will definatley need a tight as valvetrain - so please explain.......confused.
I didn't say that his vehicle was suitable to rev that high.........nor did I say it was safe. All i did was answer his compression question - and I also said that "I'm not sure".................
SO - please explain how its misinformation.

No, its like talking to a ******* *** - first you come in this thread posting ****, then you realize that you're wrong, so you edit your posts..........you have no point. The only point you've made was that the mahle pistons are poor quality. He said that he got your point - now you're asking me how many motors I've tuned - for what?
Its not like i said "hey go for it, your motor can't be hurt" ....i didn't say anything like that. And you know it. I'm done arguing. Its not even my ******* car. Do you wonder why no one has agreed with you yet?
ALSO - ITS NOT MY MOTOR.........I don't even know the guy.........i have NOTHING to do with his motor.................

10k rpms....lol. Goodluck making power there. Your bottom end wont take that kind of revving without some serious work.
Anyway, as far as the mahle pistons go, try them. Be the guinea pig for all the rest of us who are wondering about them. If you get them, make sure you change your oil after 500 miles to see if there is any metal in it.
It's just kinda a nice reassurance thing when you have a sleeved block. Knowing that if you do happen to throw a rod, it wont **** up the rest of the block.
What header are you running? Is this a 4th gen or a 5th gen?
