Default pulled over for 5 over!?!

Sorry for this post, but I need to vent a little. I was driving home last night from school (which I'm at from 8am - 10pm 2 days a week) and I was following a group of cars going down I-75 N somewhere around I-696. We were all going about 70-75 mph in the fast lane just trying to get home... no racing, no swerving, no funny business.. period. About a 1/4 mile up the road I saw brake lights go on for a sec. on the side of the road and as I passed the car I saw that it was a cop in a Crapero. Now I was the second to the last in a group of about 8 cars and out of nowhere he's on my *** with his brights and his goofy circus lights flashing at me. I'm thinking, "out of a group of 8 cars he's pulling me over... hmm wonder why?" He ended up giving me a 5 mph over speeding ticket ON THE FREEWAY!!! It was a 70 mph zone too!! I was so pissed off and still am. At least its only $75, but I still think it's a joke. I could understand if I was the only one.... Sorry guys, I just thought it was rather retarded. I guess I'm asking for it in the land of Craperos, Flamebirds and Poontangs.

I'd take it to court and ask for some leniency. Tell them you had different size tires and you thought you were only going 70 +/- 2 or 3 mph.

yeah that's some bullshit. If that happened to me I'd be just as pissed as you. Take it to court for sure.

Did he ask you how fast you were going? Cause if you said about 75, then your screwed, but if you never admitted to it, then you could fight it, say you were busy keeping your eyes on the road, not on your dash, and that you speedo may be a little off. Fight it, it cant hurt.

He asked how fast I was going and I told him that I was unsure of my speed, but I knew that I wasn't speeding. Then he told me that I was and asked why, so I told him that I was going with the flow of traffic which was travelling at 70 mph. Oh.... by the way, I forgot to mention that it was beginning to rain slightly when this happened. You would have to be stupid to drive faster than the posted limit when its raining and 36 degrees. I think he was just jealous of the Lude since he was driving that Crapero with the semi truck sized steering wheel.

If you were 5mph over, then you were 5mph, speeding is speeding. But that does suck

Sorry man, that's garbage. Where I come from, the cops won't usually do anything until you're about 15 over.

find out what your laws are in regards to speeding in traffic. up here in new hampshire if you are in a group of cars and it is considered traffic, you can NOT be given a speeding ticket - unless you are reckless driving or swerving in and out of traffic. if you are going the same speed as everyone else, you can't be given a ticket. check to see if something like that is in your state.

Hey man, that really sucks. But let me tell you what happened to me a little while back if ya'll dont mind.

I wasn't even in my Prelude. I was driving my truck....which is a 94 Chevy Z71(thats where the screen name comes from). This truck is completely stock as far as tire size goes...and the speedometer will only go to 85. I am driving in the slow lane till a car ahead of me is like doing 40 so I pull out..pass it and then get back in the other lane. I look in the rear view and see blue ligts behind me.

The trooper pulls me over and tells me he just clocked me doing 90! I am like WTF? I started to argue with him and ended up in his car . He then asked me if I had any weapons in the vehicle and started to poke around. I told him none to my knowledge(I trully knew nothing about the 9mm under the seat...my Dad had been using the truck). Luckily the trooper didnt see the gun thank God...in Alabama you have to be 21 to have a handgun liscense. I am only 19.

Anyway..he finally let me leave, but not without a $135 fine...for doing 90 in a truck that cant go past 85. Couldnt fight it...he won I had to pay...

Just to show you yours could be worse

Actually I think there's some stipulation (if you can find it) that states that due to inaccuracy, 5mph is "legal". But when you bring this to court, make sure the cop states how far he paced you (1/8 mile required no HP carry radar guns to my knowledge), and the last time his car was calibrated. I didn't know this when I got pulled over for a 68 in a 65 initially for "illegal lights." When he found none, he gave me a ticket for 3 mph over the limit. The judge upheld this too... <sigh> I wish I knew this stuff back then. To top it off the fine was $21 including court fees, but that doesn't count the point I got!

If you were in a line of about eight people....How can he be sure it was even you he zapped with his laser? His aim could be off....Take it to court he won't show up and you will get it dropped.
