Default problem starting car

ok, I just got a 97 prelude with 80,000 miles on it. When I push the clutch in and turn the key to start the car sometimes nothing happens at all. I have to keep the clutch in and the key turned and then move the steering wheel back and forth. Once the steering wheel hits a certain spot the car starts. Anyone know how I can fix this?

the wires on your selonoid may be loose. take apart the steering colum and check the connection. resoldering may be nessicary.

Just a question....when you are turning the key is it turning all the way or does it feel like its stuck until the steering wheel hits that certain point???

Sometimes the key feels stuck and doesn't turn all the way, but then I try again and it usually turns.

thats the steering wheel lock, if you turn the wheel after you turn the car off it will lock. its a theft prevention thing. anyway when you get in you have to put the key in turn wheel till it unlocks and the turn the key the rest of the way.

Its not the steering wheel lock. I have the key turned all the way. Then I have to turn the steering wheel back and forth untill it starts. When it starts, the key NEVER TURNS ANYMORE THAN IT ALREADY HAS. That's how I know it's not the steering wheel lock. And, I usually have to try this like two or three times before it starts. I really want to get this fixed so any help would be appreciated.

if its not the steering wheel lock its probably a loose wire. disaasemble steering column and check wiring.

OT: how do you take the steering wheel lock off? I tried once (bored, and since I was messing with the ignition switch I had the car running w/o keys) but I ended up breaking my windshield trying to get those 2 bolts out... in the Helms manual they make it look so easy!

P.S. This was my OWN car, I didn't steal it!
