I hear a grinding noise ever since they replaced my starter, this morning it was cranking but took like 10 tries to start, it would be close to start but would keep cranking, spark plugs are new and wires are good what would it be? This happens a lot but not always.

 

Take it to an auto parts store that tests your entire starting system.

 

If its cranking but not starting, its most likely an issue with spark or fuel.

Distributor may have taken a **** on you or the the oh so popular main relay.

Have you actually checked for spark? Do you hear the fuel pump prime?

 

There's fuel for sure, spark, mm, it's a jdm motor and was sitting around for a while, I know it cuz I can tell, so what should I check on the distributor? The car runs perfect once started, sometimes it starts right away, other times I turn the key and it cranks once then nothing, the second time it does that but then it starts or I would have to do it a third time, maybe the starter?

 

So it intermittently cranks? Sometimes it cranks, sometimes it won't? If that's the case I would look into the starter again. But if its constantly cranking just not firing, its in the ignition or fuel system.
