Default Preparing to Drag

Fellow lude owners, I need some advice on what I need to prepared myself to be able to get the fastest time for my set up. This is the first time out on the track with this car. I have a 2000 Prelude with AEM CAI, AEM Cam Gears, Apexi N1 exhuast, Apexi V-AFC, MSD SCI w/blaster 2 coil, and Tanabe Sustec Coilover, also I'll be using stock rims. What do you guys suggest? Do I need to lower my car more? What about tire pressure? Should I buy new spark plugs wires and maybe more fuel to my car or should I lean it out. Give me some advice please. What times do you guys think I can get? Thanks

Your stock plug wires are fine. Raise rear pressure to whatever the maximum for your tires is (probably 51-54 psi). Drop the front, raise the rear. W/ regards to V-AFC and cam gear settings, the only way to get anything meaningful is to spend the bucks for dyno-time - the track is not the place to sort out that kind of fine tuning. I would suggest you try runs both with and without the silencer tho, assuming you have one.

Paul

I would not burn up stock tires or any street tire for that matter. Bypass the water box completely. Street radials will actually lose traction when heated.

I would not lauch too high either. Feather the clutch, don't just dump it.

As far as the best setup for waht you have, dyno it. That is the only way to find out the truth. You could do adjustments at he track, but who is to say whether it was the car that got better/worse or you?

what he means is when you are about to line up, about 30 ft behind the tree, there will be a "box" (small area) with water in it for you to light up your tires and heat them u pfor better traction. This is only benificial with slicks or drag radials. If you roast street radials, you will lose traction on launch.

Long story short, when you see water? Go around it. You'll half the folks go through it, and half go around... trust me, go around... or you'll have people laughing at you saying "why in the hell is he heating up street tires????"

Well guys, I went to the drags on Saturday. Now I know how bad the stock tires suck. Anyways with the setup I got. I ran consistently 14.8 14.93. But with a horrible r/t of around 1.0 when I ran the 14.82 my r/t was 1.817. How horrible is that? Anywayz thanks alot for your help it made my first time experience fun. What do you guys think if I had a better r/t? Would i have a better 1/4 time? Thanks again

Good runs, R/T is only to tell you how you reacted towards. What was your 60 ft. and you MPH...Again those are good runs

14.8 @ 92mph! Nto bad. I ran 14.8 @ 96mph w/o N2O. My 60ft was something like 2.2. Oh well, just keep practicing and you reaction times will go down. BTW, reaction times do not change your 1/4 time.
