Prelude LSD ???
Can I install a quaife LSD in my 1997 Honda Prelude SH? I am going to remove the ATTS unit. I was wondering what the difference between the SH tranny and the base.
I am not sure. From the SH to the base the case, the differential, the counter shaft, and one of the differential bearings(one closest to engine) are different. Everything else is the same including main shafts, gears, shift forks.
The case of course is going to be different because of the mounting of the atts. the question is if the counter shafts are different diameters or can you interchage them. I would have the SH differential and compare it to a base or an lsd.
Just remember you are going to need an adapter plate for a base half shaft on the sh engine.

Yeah, i know i need to make a custom plate to hold the intermediate shaft. I just need to know if the LSD will fit in it. Has anyone every try this?

alright so it won't work. thanks. just talk to gearspeed and they also said the lsd wont fit in the sh tranny. so im just going go with a 1992-96 tranny or a 1997-01 base tranny and put an aftermarket lsd in it. another questions though, how difficult is it to put the lsd in?

if you can get the tranny out, cracking the case and stalling the LSD will not be that hard. The Prelude shop manual (the one you get from HelmINC) has step by step instructions that you can follow.
Basic rundown (if I remember right):
remove axle nuts while car is on ground, then jack it up as high as you can
remove wheels,
remove LCA from knuckle (use Pittman arm puller)
remove radius rods,
disconnect bottom of shocks from LCA
remove front lower cross-member (the one that has the front motor mount on it)
remove intake up to the throttle body
remove battery and battery tray
remove starter
remove clutch slave cylinder (leave lines connected)
remove clutch dampener (leave lines connected)
disconnect reverse gear sensor, and VSS sensor wires
remove any wire holders that blot to the tranny
disconnect shift cables, and shift cable brackets
remove engine stiffener plate from tranny/oilpan
drain tranny oil
remove axles and half shaft
support tranny with a jack
support engine with a jack or jack stand under the oil pan with a big block of wood
remove all tranny to engine bolts
remove right side, and rear engine mounts (they both connect to the tranny)
lower tranny, and wiggle it lose from the clutch.

its not too hard to get the case open and get the new lsd in.
you are going to need either a vise or an impact wrench to get the final drive gear bolts on and off the diff (they are left hand thread btw) and prolly a torch of some sort to heat the vss gear till you can pull it off the diff.
i would buy new bearings for the diff as well as new oil seals, thrust washers and ALL of the diff thrust shims. you will only use one of them, but you could spend months waiting for new ones to come in when you realize the ones you bought didnt work. a cheap seal driver kit from harbor freight will come in handy as well.
you are also going to need a torque wrench that can measure 12-24 INCH pounds and some way to spin the differential with the torque wrench. if you can fit a length of threaded rod through the diff (not sure if quaiffe can do this) then you can jam some washers on either end to spin it, otherwise you'll need to cut a spare axle and weld a socket onto it.
don't try this without a Helm's.
