Potential fuel problem?
My wife's got a 93 SR with about 125k on it. Just yesterday it cut out on her. Got it started (just barely) and limped it home. Starts rough, some popping and misfiring, then smooths out a few seconds later. Try to rev it and it won't spin past 3500 RPM. Sounds like a fuel cut, or rev limiter almost. I checked the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and aside from the usual, everything seems normal. Unfortunatly, I don't have any kind of tool to bring up any engine codes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
wrong forum i think.
anyways. motors are motors my friend. it sounds like this is more than a fuel problem. first of all, is your check engine light on?
second. we need to check out that missfiring and back firing. could be simple fuel, but then again the lack of reving power makes me think it more. when your about to throw a rod, this is usually what happends.
ok, first... start your car up. listen for the backfiring and missing. it might be alittle easier to hear it out from the tail pipe. once you have determined that there is something there go back to the front of your engine. we want to try to isolate what cylinder is missing. you want to start pulling off the plug wires while the car is running. BECAREFUL NOT TO SHOCK YOURSELF. start one wire at a time. pull it, and listen for the motor to make any different changes in noise. if you pull a wire and the car runs worse than you pulled the wrong wire. move to the next one.
now, what your listening for is no change in the way the car runs. so... if you pull a plug and the car still runs like ***, you have found what cylinder it is. once you have done that, come back... and we can go from there.
i hope this helped. it is kinda confusing. sorry.
