I have my 1998 Prelude and am wondering if the steering column is adjustable, as in if it can be moved inward more towards the steering wheel? I have outlined the part of the column in which I am referring to in red. Any answer to this would be great, thanks.
well the part that attaches to, the steering pinion, does not swivel towards the cabin or anything. you will likely need to get a spacer or something for the steering wheel.
That's what I'm trying to tell you, the pinion does not swivel towards the cabin. so how could it be pushed in or out? It cant. Unless you take the steering column and push it closer to the "part in red"
Everything in red and to the right of it, cannot be adjusted or moved, it attaches to the pinion and sits there.
The only thing that could move would be everything to the left of the red but I doubt it

That's exactly what I am trying to ask you and other members out there to confirm is if that shaft circled in red is able to move in towards the upper part of the column. Only reason I asked is I am doing a custom manual steering rack on my Prelude.
Sorry man I was trying to explain why I am saying no, don't mean to sound rude.
What I am saying is the yellow thing and gray bar do not move at all. Since the gray bar cannot tilt towards the cabin, the red part on top that you circled will not be able to move closer to the driver. except when u tilt the steering wheel down, then it moves like the edge of a circle, very small change in radius from the swivel joint to where the steering wheel sits.
Thanks for the illustration the red shaft that you have is the one that I need to be able to not swivel but able to slide in closer. I think that the prelude column does not move but the one for the 98-02 Accord and the one from a 97 Acura CL does. I will have to buy one to confirm this. Below is the same column out of a 97 Acura cl and the shaft that I am trying to find out if it is movable is shorter on one of the columns, so that must mean it does move.
I don't need the red shaft to move closer to the grey shaft. I need the red one to move closer to the white shaft in your picture that is the steering column.
Oh! Now I get what you mean. To SHORTEN the red shaft by "moving inward" as you originally posted...
Yes exactly that I will be trying this out with my Prelude column first to see if it moves at all. If not then I am purchasing the cl column since it does seem to move. I need to make up 3 inches shorter so I can have no binding in my steering.
Regardless of you getting that shaft to move or not, the mounting points for the column are solid on the inside of the car. You would need an adjustable column like out of CL but it is rather unlikely that it will fit properly.
No worries I am in the process of purchasing the column out of a CL. I can figure out the mounting points and if they differ then I will make a custom bracket.
