Default oil question

I changed the oil in my '94 Si yesterday.
I used mobil 1 5w30 synthetic (which I've heard good things about) and a fram oil filter. I was tempted to buy a K&N but couldn't really justify spending all that money on an oil filter. Is it really worth it? What makes these so different and so much more? Oh yeah, the Si is supposed to take 4.5 quarts with filter, I checked my level after I added the oil and it was right at the bottom mark on the dipstick. I thought it was supposed to be between the two markers so I added another half quart which actually brought me just slightly above the second mark. Is this bad? I noticed a smoother and quieter idle with the extra 1/2 quart.

just use the fram oil filter, no need to use the k&n. only use it if youre going to have the oil for more than 3k miles which i hope you dont do.i use 5qts when i change my oil on my lude, it seems to run quieter and better. ive use the fram oil filters and the k&n and its pretty much the same thing, so just save youre money and save for the h22 swap, like me peace

Let an idiot enlighten you guys... 5 quarts good! 4.5 is what its supposed to be... I have one question though... Do you fill the oil filter with oil before you put it on like your supposed too? Theres your .5 quart! Just add 5 and ur ok... My car runs better when I add that .5 quart to the filter for the 1st 3 or 4 minutes that urs is adapting.... It takes about 4 minutes for the filter to soak it all up and get lubricated... Its not huge, but filter companies recommend that you do that... read the fine print! Just add 5 and dont worry about it... You'll evenout before you go 100 miles... Check it then, and your filter will have soaked it up and oyu should be close to the 2nd line... Unless you got a little extra oil from before.. Then it might be a lil above or on it... No need to worry... I use 6 quarts on mine actually... I drain, then pour a quart in it to get any grime to run out(to hopefully, and sometimes some does).. Then I replace my bolt and filler up! Gl on that... sorry to be an ***... I am though...who cares..

CLIFF NOTES: 4.5 is too little because its equivalent to 4 quarts after filter use. 5 good and right amount to put in... Use only mobil 1 because it bitch slaps all other streetable oils and even alot of race oils(diff is the detergents mainly and a lil viscosity)

I run the car for a few minutes, then check my level.

Hey I should know this stuff, I'm a Lube tech!
Oh yeah, I work for a lincoln-mercury dealership (may be a legitimate excuse for my ignorance!)
