Default Oil Cooler

This morning i started my car and let it warm up for probably around 7 mins. I go back outside and see the car shooting oil all over. It turns out its leaking from somewhere around the oil filter, I believe its the cooler o ring because it looks like it coming from closer to the block than the filter itself. Anyway Im having a hard time breaking it loose, what is everyone else using ?

It weird though that I was working on the car saturday night and everything was fine no leaks anywhere and now its leaking ALOT. I didnt touch anything near that so I dont think its anything I did. Is it possible for an oil cooler oil ring to all of a sudden leak alot ?

definitely the oil cooler. It's very fast to change out if you have a 1/2" drive, the gasket and the right size socket. Mine squirted oil for a mile and was everywhere.

Its a 30mm correct ? This is on a 98 SH BTW. Also do I need to drain the coolant from the radiator and block ?

No need to drain coolant, just the oil. And be very careful during reassembly the ORING has a tendency to slide a bit and not want to stay in place.

It is very possible, and due to a temperature drop. The rubber shrinks in the cold and and cracks.

I changed the o ring and it didnt wanna stay on i tryed for a good 30 mins tryin to make sure it was sitting on there and thought i finally had it. Anyway I go to start the car and i loose atleast 2 quarts of oil withing 5 seconds. I felt around the o ring and nothing was sticking out it seemed like it was on there. Its a bitch though because i tryed to get it on there without disconecting the oil cooler from the oil lines because it seemed like if i took it off i wasnt gonna get that back on. Also i changed the oil filter just in case that had anything to do with it and that was on there tight also. This is on an SH and im looking at the diagram there is actually another seal behind a mounting bracket that the oil cooler sits on. Anyone have any ideas ?

You most likely either didn't install the oil cooler o-ring right or you left the old oil filter o-ring on there...

The o-ring on the actual filter. Very often they stick to the block when you take the old filter off, and then you put the new filter on and you have 2 o-rings in there. Doesn't usually seal very well...

Na theres no o ring on there. Anyway the oring does not wanna sit and everytime i move the cooler towards the block after putting the oring on the oring falls or moves off, it doesnt wanna sit in the slot.

could you use just a little gasket sealer enough to hold it in place?

I just wiped off every bit of oil I could with a rag and used a couple dabs of grease to hold it in place.

Yea that sounds like it should work. Also what is the torque spec for the bolt that holds the oil cooler and the oil filter screws onto ?

Not certain on the torque spec, I tightened mine down tighter than an oil filter but not a hell of a lot tighter than that. I didn't have a torque wrech at the time.

Do you need a helms? I can hook you up. If so PM me.
